The International Association of Mathematical Physics (IAMP) has officially chose DTU in Vietnam as the venue for the International Congress of Mathematical Physics (ICMP), to be held in 2027. This is a paramount event for the Mathematical Physics community, taking place every three years, and attracting a large number of esteemed scientists, including many Nobel and Fields Medal laureates.

The ICMP 2024 held at the University of Strasbourg (France) in early July 2024 welcoming many scientists, including Professor Serge Haroche (Nobel Prize in Physics 2012); Professor Martin Hairer (Fields Medal winner 2014); Professor Wendelin Werner (Fields Medal winner 2006), Professor Maryna Viazovska (Fields Medal winner 2022), and Professor Artur Avila (Fields Medal winner 2014). Vietnamese scientist Professor Phan Thanh Nam (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany), a member of the scientific council of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM), was one of 16 distinguished researchers invited to deliver a plenary talk at the conference.

The International Congress on Mathematical Physics (ICMP) is expected to welcome around 600 to 1,000 leading scientists and experts worldwide. As such, the International Association of Mathematical Physics has been very careful in its selection process to choose the most suitable universities from various countries to host the event. The ICMP has previously been held at prestigious universities such as the University of Strasbourg (France) in 2024, the University of Geneva (Switzerland) in 2021, and McGill University (Canada) in 2018.

At the ICMP 2024 closing ceremony, the International Association of Mathematical Physics announced that Vietnam would be the host for ICMP 2027, with the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) and DTU as the organizing institutions. This will be the second time the event is held in Asia, following ICMP 1975 in Kyoto, Japan.

In Vietnam, the field of Mathematical Physics research has developed strongly. The VIASM attracts numerous scientists, creating a community of esteemed researchers to conduct in-depth studies in mathematical physics. Vietnamese scientists abroad, including Professor Phan Thanh Nam (LMU Munich, Germany) and Professor Nguyen Trong Toan (Pennsylvania State University, USA) have actively collaborated with VIASM to hold scientific activities in Mathematical Physics as part of the National Key Program for the Development of Mathematics from 2021 to 2030.
In August 2024, there will be a VIASM Summer School on Mathematical Physics in Hue city, with renowned experts such as Professor Robert Seiringer (Institute of Science and Technology Austria, Austria) and Professor Yoshiko Ogata (Kyoto University, Japan) - both are recipients of the Henri Poincaré Prize and many other prestigious scientific awards. The year 2027 will mark the 50th anniversary of the International Association of Mathematical Physics (IAMP), making the ICMP 2027 a highly anticipated international event, attracting numerous leading scientists in both mathematics and physics.
Many major international events have been held at DTU
In Vietnamese universities, the field of Mathematical Physics is a focus of interest for many scientists. In this domain, DTU prioritizes attracting outstanding scientists from both Vietnam and around the world to foster in-depth and interdisciplinary research collaborations. Many DTU scientists have been recognized in the international research community, with several achieving high rankings in various databases such as Research.com, PLoS ONE, and Google Scholar. DTU's research strengths are bolstered by three major research institutes located in Da Nang, Hanoi, and HCMC, respectively:
- Institute of Research and Development (IRD),
- Institute of Theoretical and Applied Research (ITAR), and
- Institute of Fundamental and Applied Sciences (IFAS).
These research institutes attract many scientists with diverse research fields (especially physics, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, and medicine) to contribute to a significant number of international publications and patents for the university.

Similar to the universities previously chosen by the International Association of Mathematical Physics to host the ICMP over the years, DTU is highly regarded for its quality and capability to successfully host the ICMP. This is due to several key factors, including the fact that DTU has been a prestigious venue for numerous agencies, units, and global non-governmental organizations to hold large-scale events, ceremonies, conferences, and international workshops in Vietnam, (such as UN WTO, SEAMEO, Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training, P2A, etc.)
Being chosen to host a world-leading event like the International Congress on Mathematical Physics 2027 marks a significant milestone in the robust development of Vietnam's scientific community, particularly in the fields of Mathematics and Physics. As part of the National Key Program for the Development of Mathematics 2021-2030, this event represents an important opportunity to attract many of the world's leading scientists to Vietnam. It will also promote the advancement of domestic science, allowing it to engage with central research trends in the global scientific community.
