The seminar “Solutions to improve English language teaching and studying in an integrated environment” organized by the Faculty of Foreign Languages

In addition to having a young, enthusiastic, and professionally skilled team trained at prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad, the DTU Faculty of Foreign Languages also regularly works with lecturers from other universities and research institutes in the city and with foreign lecturers to have them teach its students and guide them with their practice.

DTU students of foreign languages have access to an advanced curriculum that is continuously updated to new knowledge to capture current trends. They are equipped with a thorough understanding of the phonology, vocabulary, and grammar of English or Chinese under the guidance of skilled lecturers and in particular of foreign lecturers. After graduating from English for Interpretation & Translation, English for Hospitality & Tourism, and Chinese Language at DTU, students can fluently use all four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing to communicate at many work positions in tourism, at hotels or restaurants, or at businesses with foreign language needs.

Students are trained with practical professional knowledge, such as in restaurant work, hotel work, tour guiding, and reception work. They learn to fluently translate socioeconomic reports, sociocultural reports, scientific writing, and news reports from Vietnamese to English and vice-versa; and to interpret at conferences and workshops, for business and political conversations, and for everyday conversations.

Foreign language students at DTU furthermore receive career orientation and are taught soft skills like giving presentations, teamwork, communicating confidently, dealing with issues, and creating work plans, to securely enter the job market in Vietnam or abroad.

With their fluent conversational skills in their chosen foreign language and their good understanding of the written word, they can explain Vietnamese history and cultural traits to foreign visitors. The DTU Bachelors of foreign languages can furthermore take part in diplomacy and are able to translate and interpret for tourism, cuisine, hotels, and restaurants.

In 2019 season, DTU continues awarding preferential scholarships to Foreign Language students:

• DTU Scholarships: 720 scholarships worth from one to five million dong each for Foreign Language  applicants with a total High Graduation Exam three-subject score three to ten points higher than the admissions minimum.
• 700 Scholarships: with total value of  1 billion dong for applicants, including Foreign Languages, with a high school transcript score of 22 or above.

• Scholarships worth 5 million dong each for first-year Foreign Languages students who obtained a consolation prize in a National Skilled Student contest or in a National Science or Technology contest.
• 20 Talent scholarships: (full or partial): to English Language applicants, who obtained a first, second, third or consolation prize in a National Skilled Student contest or in a National Science or Technology contest held by the Ministry of Education and Training.
