Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, DTU Vice-Provost, gave a general overview of what the university achieved in the 20 years of its development. These laudable results were obtained thanks to the significant contributions of lecturers and students to the many aspects of education, research, collaboration, and community activities. Through the 20 years of its growth, DTU enrolled two PhD courses and eleven Master’s courses with over 1,200 students, twenty Bachelor level courses with over 62,000 students, and ten higher vocational courses with about 10,000 students. Staff and lecturers are professors and PhDs graduated from prestigious universities in Vietnam and abroad, and they efficiently contribute to the process of educational improvement and to the expansion of research with ever more international research publications. (Among these, 72 articles were published in ISI-listed international journals.) During its development, DTU formed collaborations with large universities in the US, the UK, and other countries to transfer curricula and to send students abroad for studies. Currently, 89% of DTU students find employment six months after graduation and, in particular, DTU students can be proud of the big prizes they won in national and international contests.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the significant achievements DTU has made over the years. He said: “I am very happy to be here for the 32nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teacher’s Day and to hand you the Second Class Labor Medal awarded by the State. DTU has grown tremendously for the past 20 years and accomplished many remarkable feats. Not only offering many new disciplines, DTU has also paid attention to the construction of facilities with modern classrooms and labs. DTU realized a lot in the renovation of education by boosting scientific research and by collaborating with well-known universities worldwide to train a highly-skilled workforce for the job market. Its collaboration with the business sector to create internship and employment opportunities for its students is really remarkable. This is the most efficient way to build an appropriate educational program so that graduates would meet the always increasing demands of society.”

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc gave some directions for the further growth of the university: To contribute to the comprehensive renovation of education, DTU needs to concentrate on forming a highly-qualified workforce, increase international cooperation, and boost scientific research and technology transfer. The university has to focus on improvement of its teaching staff, pay attention to the living standards of teachers and students, and create the right conditions for lecturers and students.

Having followed, oriented, and supported DTU, Prof. MSc Bui Van Ga, Deputy Minister of Education and Training said: “The Ministry of Education and Training values the achievements and the effective renovation of DTU highly. As one of a few universities the Ministry entrusted with the formation of PhDs, DTU confirmed its reputation. For the past few years, many universities had difficulties in student enrollment, but DTU met its criteria. The many DTU graduates with employment drew more candidate students to choose DTU as the very place for their studies. The decision to develop international collaboration and scientific research is an intensive investment aimed at sustainable development in the future. I believe DTU will develop even more strongly and become one of the most prestigious universities of the entire country.”

Joyful at the State President awarding the Second Class Labor Medal, Distinguised Teacher Le Cong Co, DTU President and Provost, said: “DTU is honored and pleased to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visiting our university and giving us some close and heartfelt guidance. DTU accepts the advice, which we are determined to make reality the coming years. Through strength, intelligence, love, and ambition, DTU is gradually turning into a strong and high-quality university. Its strong development has affirmed the private model the Party and State appropriately implemented. With inner strength and passion from all lecturers, DTU will focus on investing in infrastructure, continue its international collaboration, improve the quality of its lecturers to form highly-qualified graduates, and to contribute to the building of a strong Vietnam.”

Most recently at its 20th anniversary, DTU had the honor to receive an Emulation Banner from the Ministry of Education and Training for the academic year 2013-2014. This pleasure is now double with the honor of the Second  Class Labor Medal awarded by the State President. The trust and recognition of the Party and State, of Ministries and Departments, is at the same time the pride of DTU and a great responsibility for the university to put even more effort in that Vietnamese students would acquire the necessary skills for global integration.
