Program Code: 9580201
Degree Awarded: PhD in Civil Engineering
Program Duration:
» 3 years for holders of master’s degree
» 4 years for holders of bachelor’s degree
Advantages & strengths
Advances in the innovation of traditional materials based on progress in science & technology are driving the development of new composite materials with many properties, modularization, standardization, prefabrication of building components, and the use of automated (and semi-automated) equipment and smart technologies in construction. The application of artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies, and big data is creating a growing demand for students at master’s and doctoral levels in Civil Engineering at universities.
To meet this demand, DTU is investing in facilities, lecturers, and curricula for its graduate programs in Civil Engineering at the master’s and doctoral levels. This aims to provide society with highly qualified professionals across various areas of the construction industry.
Program objectives
The program is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge in civil engineering. Specifically, it helps students strengthen and develop their way of thinking and their knowledge of construction organization and management methods, structural engineering, solid mechanics, soil mechanics, foundations, construction sites, the design of special structures, the management of large-scale and complex projects, the application of new technologies and materials in construction, structural optimization, the analysis of causes of structural failure and deterioration, and the repair and strengthening of structures.
Admission requirements
Applicants must hold either a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude or higher or a master’s degree. They must demonstrate research experience through either: a master’s thesis as part of a research-oriented program; authorship of a scientific paper or report related to the intended research field that has been published or accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal or the proceedings of a specialized scientific conference or workshop within the 36 months preceding the application date; or at least 24 months of work as a lecturer or researcher at an educational institution or a science & technology organization.
