The “2 in 1” battery-powered wheelchair enables users to better maneuver in confined spaces, where the motor can be detached, or for longer distances when attached. It is simple and convenient and can be easily tailored to the owner’s body and delivered in two sections, that can be joined together quickly by the user at any time, in any situation.

Ms. Phan Thi Phuc, from Hoa Khanh in the district of Lien Chieu, was one of the ten disabled recipients. Her legs were paralyzed in the war in 1968, she could not afford an electric wheelchair so she used a hand-driven one to get around. Unfortunately, her arm muscles have weakened recently and it became increasingly difficult to control her old wheelchair. "My new electric wheelchair is small and flexible and very easy for a handicapped person like myself to use." said Ms. Phuc.

According to Mr. Dang Ngoc Trung, the project leader, his team wanted to develop a wheelchair for the disabled to get around more easily without other help.

“The drive units are powered by batteries that are light but strong enough to cover 30 to 40 kilometers non-stop”, said Mr.Dang Ngoc Trung. He added that the DTU wheelchairs could also be successfully marketed to the public.
