“Power of Communication” Talk Show for First-Year Social Sciences & Humanities Students

On October 6, DTU first-year Multimedia Communications and Public Relations students met guest speakers from the fields of communications and brand management and listened to informative presentations by experts. The theme of the meeting was: “The Power of Communication”, and was organized by the Faculty Social Sciences & Humanities.

Guests included Dr. Do Anh Duc from the School of Journalism & Communications in the University of Social Sciences & Humanities, at Vietnam National University in Hanoi; Mr. Pham Song Thu, an expert in brand and media crisis management; and MSc. Tran Trong Hai, Head of Marketing at Rikkei Digital. 
 
The large number of K29 freshmen at the meeting proved the popularity and potential of the two majors, showing that the quality of education at the university now meets the requirements and expectations of the younger generation. During a period of strong development of the fields of communications and public relations in the current digital age, the internet has created many new opportunities, ranging from careers in television broadcasting, online advertising and branding, to information management and public relations, all of which has created an ever-increasing demand for skilled specialists in those two fields.

The students gained a deeper insight in the trends and challenges, were highly motivated by the professionalism of the speakers, and aroused and curious to examine their future career aspirations in more detail. The invitees talked about the wonderful world of the media, how to prepare for a future in the media industry, and the career stories of some of the people behind the scenes. 
 
MSc. Tran Trong Hai said: “During the talk show, we offered you a better understanding of the field of communications, of popular communication models around the world, and the professional skills required by media companies, all of which which will teach you how to prepare for your future careers.”

The guests also stressed the development and importance of communications to bring countries and cultures together in the technological era of 4.0, and presented the trends and challenges in the media industry that students need to prepare for. They also emphasized that students need to master the basic knowledge and skills they acquire during their studies, maintain their reading and note-taking habits, improve their foreign language skills, and remain up to date on the latest technology, all considered to be the key factors in the success and potential job opportunities in the media.
 
The K29 freshmen from the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities asked the speakers many questions, such as: How do I stand out in an industry when there are so many individuals and companies creating content? What are the recruiting criteria; and what are the pressures and how do can I overcome them?
 
In addition, the program also included presentations by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Union and by the Board of Directors of the JC Chance Press & Media Club, giving the students a better understanding of the university, the Faculty, the Faculty Union and the DTU Club, as well as of the activities of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities. With a better understanding of their chosen profession, and equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge for the future, the first-year students of class K29 of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities will certainly succeed.
