DTU, the Global Youth Academies and Vietnamese Youth Academy jointly held the 4th worldwide meeting of young academics from July 31 to August 2. The event offered a great opportunity for young scientists to exchange experiences and collaborate to conduct research projects to promote peaceful and integrated societies.
Attendees included Professor Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh, of University College in London, Ms. Neate Wagner, Director of the Global Youth Academy, Mr. Nguyen Hoanh Nam, Deputy-Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nguyen Hai Thanh, Deputy-Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Education and Training, together with 300 representatives from 30 National Youth Academies worldwide, including Japan, Germany, Albania, Australia, Bangladesh, Benin, Burundi, Cameroon and Colombia.

Ms. Beat Wagner, Director of Global Youth Academies, said: “I am very happy to attend this international meeting of young academics at DTU. I would like to thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Training and DTU for hosting this important event. This large forum enables young academics from all over the world to exchange experiences and conduct their research and social activities successfully.”
Dr. Nguyen Hai Thanh, a representative from the Ministry of Education and Training, said: “Research networking plays an important role in enhancing collaboration and research productivity for a better world. Young people are the future of our countries and the world. Thanks go to DTU, a university with significant research achievements in Vietnam, for supporting this meeting”
Participants
Several issues were discussed at the meeting, including:
• The role of the Global Youth Academy and the strategic activities of National Youth Academy necessary in achieving the United Nation’s sustainable development goals.
• Appeals to fund research and a policy to development national strategic agendas.
• Strengthening the relationship of National Young Academies around the world to promote peaceful and integrated societies.
• Strategies for promoting equity and academic freedom.
DTU researchers have become members of Vietnamese Youth Academy. They are Dr. Le Hoang Sinh, Director of the Center for Advanced Chemistry and Vice-director of the Institute of Research and Development and Dr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, from the Center of Advanced Chemistry, who both make significant contributions to promoting research and community networking.
Gladys Kianji, a lecturer in the University of Nairobi Department of Geology and a member of the Kenya Youth Academy of Sciences, said: “Globalization has created a borderless world, which has brought us closer to cooperate and access to the most advanced technology. This is the first time I have attended the worldwide meeting of young academics and I am really impressed. The meeting has allowed us to discuss social issues that we are currently facing, enabling me to meet everyone and arrange future collaborations.”
Students work with foreign researchers
The delegates also met with high school students from Quang Nam and Danang.
Dang Xuan Minh Hieu, a student of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Danang, said: “I am very happy to draw my favorite scientist. I was taught how to make Gold Nano particles. I was also really impressed by the modern labs at DTU and the helpful and friendly lecturers. This was a very important visit which allowed us to meet scientists from all over the worldwide, broaden our knowledge and come up with some innovative ideas for the upcoming municipal science and technology contest.”
