On November 23rd, DTU met with representatives of National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. Professor Ching-Min Chen, Associate Vice-President for International Affairs at NCKU, ProfessorJing-Jy Wang, Dean of the School of Nursing & Institute of Gerontology at theNCKU College of Medicine, Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Minh, DTU Vice Provost,and lecturers and students of the DTU Faculty of Nursing attended.
Professor Wang presents gifts to Associate Professor Minh
Professor Wangsaid: “The National Cheng Kung Universitycollaborates with300 universities worldwide. The Taiwanese government is developingeducational and cultural exchanges in partnership with each ofthe ASEAN countries. Our partnership with DTU was established when Distinguished Teacher Le Cong Co and his delegation visitedus a fewmonths ago and DTU has become our first strategic Vietnamese partner in our graduate Nursing program. This is the first time I have visited DTU and I am impressed at your rapid growth over the past 22 years, especially in Nursing. I trust that our collaboration will be mutually beneficial in the near future.”
Representatives of DTU and NCKU
The NCKU representatives talked about their university and its graduate scholarship program. Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan and NCKU was founded in 1931 as the Tainan Technical College, which became the NationalCheng Kung University in 1971. NCKUhas 9 colleges, 43 departments, 39 research centers, 55 doctoral programs and 101 Master’s degree programs. NCKU offers international student scholarshipsfor Master’s recipients worth NT$5,000 and NT$9,000 for Ph.D. candidates,to cover the cost of tuition and course credit fees.
Two lecturersand a student from the DTU Nursing Faculty applied for NCKU scholarships, did a test and were interviewedby Professor Wang. Phan Thi Suong, of K19 YDD2, said: “Through its partnerships with universities around the world, including NCKU, DTU provides us extra study and research opportunities. I hope by applying for Master degree scholarship in Nursing at NCKUwill give me the chance to broaden my knowledge and professional skills to pursue a successfulcareer.”
