Dr. Trung talked about the DAAD Scholarships and about how to access more information to apply for scholarships in Germany. The Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst, the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service, is a private, publicly funded, self-governing group of higher education institutions in Germany, has built relationships with 300 public universities nationwide and provides hundreds of scholarships for international students for a variety of postgraduate courses at German universities every year.

DAAD opened an office in Vietnam in November 2003 and offers Master’s and PhD scholarships in Germany for Vietnamese graduates. It also provides financial support for Alumna to return to Germany for two or three months for further studies.

The scholarships are worth 850 to 1,200 euros a month, with free German lessons, the opportunity to take their families with them until graduation, for an additional 285 euros per month, extra funding for their attendance at meetings with other DAAD graduates, and an extra 200 euros a year for books and materials upon graduation.

In August 2016, the DAAD Envoy program was established in several provinces. In the Central region, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung from the Molecular Biology department of the DTU Center for Research and Development has been appointed DAAD Vietnam’s Envoy from 2016 to 2017.

Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Thoa from the DTU Molecular Biology department also talked about the popularity of her department, which has been attracting researchers and students from many different countries. The department has scheduled regular seminars at DTU, interconnected researchers, students and libraries, and supported international student exchanges.

As a result of the workshop, students will have a better understanding of how to apply for DAAD scholarships to complete their postgraduate studies and broaden career opportunities.
