The Tram Ky club is where students with a passion for sketching can meet. The DTU members recently created 66 drawings on the theme: ‘Memories of Cho Village’, to recreate nostalgic memories of ancient Danang, of which Cho village, in the Nai Hung 2 area, Nai Hien Dong ward, Son Tra district of Danang, was an integral part.
An exhibition of their works was held from November 16 to 19 at the Danang Museum. The drawings, by 21 students, from the Faculties of Architecture and Applied Arts from the DTU School of Engineering & Technology, were true to life and vivid, attracting the admiration and questions from the visitors, who then shared information on the event by word of mouth.
The objective of the students was to remind the people of Danang of a small part of the ancient city, arousing old memories and emotions.
The exhibition was attended by a large number of visitors
Over the course of eight months, the DTU students completed the 66 paintings, with the largest measuring 641 × 3000 mm. The artists researched photographic and video materials, and listened to the stories of people who had actually lived in Cho village, obtaining ideas for layouts and stories, which conveyed the emotion of each drawing and expressed their diversity and richness. The club members use materials, such as needle pens, pencils, watercolor, pastel and charcoal to create detailed sketches. With meticulous creativity, the talented artists recreate many nostalgic stories and representations of Danang in the old days, dedicated to a part of the city nestled between the riverside and seashore.
The Tram Ky club, where students who enjoy sketching can meet
Two thousand visitors attended the exhibition at the Danang Museum. The ‘Memories of Cho Village’ artistic program honored and preserved the cultural heritage of Danang. Through the drawings of the old sights there, the viewers could visualize and get a feeling for life in Danang many years ago.
The Tram Ky club was established by a group of students from the DTU Faculties of Architecture and Applied Arts, under the leadership of student Nguyen Anh Tai. Its purpose was to share professional expertise and a passion for sketching. The club quickly attracted students from other universities, including: the Danang Architecture University; the Danang University of Science & Technology; the FPT University of Danang, the Mien Trung University of Civil Engineering; and others. Since 2018, DTU members have contributed many outstanding works to add to the achievements of the Faculty, such as sketches for senior high schools, murals at various city locations, and, at the same time, competed in contests at Architecture festivals.
The club currently teaches classes in:
- Pencil and pen sketching, and watercolors
- PTS and AI
- Digital painting
- CorelDraw
In addition to their basic objectives, the group is always looking for ideas for community-based projects, creating humanist values, whilst preserving core cultural values.
