The Third Student Scientific Research and Startup Conference in the Environmental and Food Technology

The DTU Faculty of Environmental and Natural Sciences held its third Student Scientific Research and Startup Conference on November 30, with the topic: ‘Creative Students for Sustainable Development’. The objective was to encourage university research and startup activities, in order to enhance student skills.

Innovative research topics and startup products are presented at the conference
 
The conference was attended by Ms. Ho Nhat Phuong, Director of the SBC Royal Company; Dr. Le Thuy Trang, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Environmental and Natural Sciences; jury members; and students. Participants included various local businesses, lecturers, and students, resulting in the submission of a diverse range of research proposals. The event was divided into two parallel sessions covering several different topics in the fields of Environment and Food Technology, and enabled the creative students to present compelling ideas about products having real-world business potential.

Research projects:
 
- Researching soap production from natural ingredients beneficial to the skin and environmentally friendly 
- Researching the synthesis of activated carbon from coffee grounds to eliminate methylene blue from water
- Investigating the impact of the production of nutritional powder rich in Anthocyanin from purple yam
- Surveying factors affecting the quality of the Quang Tri province soft-dried banana
- Surveying the status of emissions and evaluating student awareness of waste classification and single-use plastics in Khe Sanh, in the Huong Hoa district of Quang Tri province
- Surveying the one-drying process and mixing ratio affecting the production of artistic blooming tea from green water lilies
- Calculating gas emissions from seaport activities, applied at the Tan Cang, Cai Mep, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau ports
- Treatment of sulfide using an advanced oxidation method with a metal oxide catalyst on a polymer base
- Researching the effects of drying on green water lily tea bags (Nymphaea Caerulea)
- Researching the extraction of anthocyanins from purple yam peel to create indicator paper for borax in food          
 
The student presentations were well received and the organizers awarded prizes to the best. Some of the leading ones included:
 
Environment:

- Surveying the status of emissions and evaluating student awareness of waste classification and single-use plastics in Khe Sanh, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province” by Nguyen Thi Hong Tinh 
 
Food Technology:
 
- Surveying factors affecting the quality of the Quang Tri province soft-dried banana, by Tran Thi Xuan Thuong, Nguyen Hoang My Uyen and Le Thi Huyen
- Surveying the one-drying process and mixing ratio affecting the production of artistic blooming tea from green water lilies, by Nguyen Trung Kien, Le Thi Huong Lan, Vo Thi Thuy Tram, Hoang Thi Ngoc Tai, Ngo Thi Minh Thu and Pham Thi Nga.
