The DTU School of Foreign Languages & Social Humanities holds the conference titled “Vietnam - Japan: The Relationship - Achievements and Prospects”

On October 13, the DTU School of Foreign Languages & Social Humanities held a conference entitled “Vietnam - Japan: The Relationship - Achievements and Prospects”, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. At the conference, local and foreign scholars met to discuss the promotion of joint relationships, partnerships and research in social sciences and humanities. 
 
Mr. Yakabe Yoshinori, Consul General of Japan in Danang; scholars from the Institute of History, Institute of World Economics and Politics; the Academy of Politics Region III; the University of Foreign Language Studies - University of Danang; Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu, DTU Vice-Provost; Dr. Hoang Thi Huong, Vice-Dean of the DTU School of Foreign Languages & Social Humanities; and DTU lecturers and students attended the conference.

The conference
 
Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu, said: “On behalf of the DTU Board of Provosts, I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Yakabe Yoshinori, Consul General of Japan in Danang, delegates, and scholars from institutes and universities nationwide. Japan has become Vietnam’s fourth-largest trading partner, significantly contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development, industrialization, and modernization process.
 
2023 marks the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations, so the DTU School of Foreign Languages & Social Humanities held a conference entitled “Vietnam-Japan: The Relationship - Achievements and Prospects”. The aim of the conference was to enhance the spirit of solidarity, friendship, cooperation, and development, contributing to promoting culture, language, education and providing recommendations to the authorities of the two countries. I am sure that, in the future, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan as well as the connection between DTU and Japanese partners will become even stronger.”

Mr. Yakebe Yoshinori
 
Mr. Yakebe Yoshinori said: “During the past 50 years, the relationship between Japan and Vietnam has experienced significant development. Japan has maintained a sustainable economic relationship with Vietnam through Japan’s ODA capital and investment projects. Currently, Vietnam has achieved much in its economic development and is regularly invited to attend G7 Summits, affirming Vietnam’s position and prestige in the international community. In particular, Japan and Vietnam have developed an equal and mutually supportive relationship. DTU held this conference at the right time to meet the current economic needs of our two countries. The Consulate General of Japan in Danang wishes to continue partnering with DTU to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Vietnam, specifically in Danang.”   
 
The conference was attended by scientists from research institutes, universities, and educational units nationwide and the forty papers addressed ways of improving comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, categorized into three topics:
 
- Topic 1: Vietnam-Japan relations: contemporary issues over the past 50 years
- Topic 2: Vietnam-Japan relations: historical imprints
- Topic 3: Vietnam-Japan relations: Cultural, Linguistic and Legal perspectives
 
During the conference, several interactive presentations received enthusiastic feedback from the scientists, including:
 
- “Vietnam-Japan Science and Technology Cooperation,” by Dr. Ta Ngoc Ha
- “Vietnam-Japan Defense Relations from 2018 to present”, by Dr. Tran Thi Hai Yen
- “Strategic Thinking on Official Development Assistance (ODA) between Japan and Vietnam from 1960 to the present”, by Dr. Nguyen Hung Vuong
 
The conference concluded successfully and the variety of projects painted a multi-dimensional picture of increasing cooperation between the two countries, confirming that achievements are key and long-term, and barriers are just temporary, in our mission to strengthen a sustainable and comprehensive cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the near future.
