DTU recently helped high school students from Danang and Quang Nam, who went on to win prizes in the 2015-2016 National Science and Technology Contest, held from March 12th to 15th in Bien Hoa, in Dong Nai.

DTU served as a technical consultant in the development and implementation of the high school research projects. Awards included two first prizes, three second, two third and three consolation prizes.

As a result of producing many innovative, international, academic research papers in technology and engineering, with 180 ISI/SCI/SSCI-indexed publications, DTU ranks in the top 20 academic publishers in Vietnam. DTU students won the CDIO Academy Cup at MIT and Harvard University in the USA in 2013, with a low-cost DIY water-filtering system for farmers, and the 2014 Asia-Pacific IDEERS Cup, with a design for earthquake-resistant structures, held in Taiwan. DTU was responsible for overseeing the 2015-2016 Science and Technology Contest for high school students, organized by the Danang and Quang Nam Departments of Education and Training, with advice from Dr. Nguyen Tan Thang, the former Director of Quang Nam Department of Education and Training.

DTU researchers, supervised by Vice-Provost Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, judged the contest at the city and provincial levels. Experienced DTU research and product development staff, including Dr. Tran Nhat Tan, Dr. Ta Quoc Bao, Dr. Le Hoang Sinh, Mr. Tran Le Than Dong, Dr. Dang Ngoc Sy and Mr. Nguyen Tan Thuan, came from the Institute of Research and Development, the Center of Electricity and Electronics, and from Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. After days of hard work, DTU selected the 12 leading projects to proceed to the national finals. Of these, 6 out of the 107 projects were from Danang and 6 from Quang Nam.

Then, DTU teamed up with the Danang and Quang Nam Departments of Education and Training to plan conferences and workshops on research methods. The objective was to improve the students’ skills making presentations, designing posters and answering the judges’ questions.

DTU assisted students by offering them the use of university labs and workshops with the latest facilities and equipment. They advised students on which technical methods they should use and gave valuable guidance on how and where to search for additional information on their projects, how to write application software and create model simulations. DTU gave grants and prizes worth 70 million VND to encourage the high school students.

As a direct result, the projects of the Danang and Quang Nam students were well received by the judges for their creativity, feasibility, and practical applicability. These achievements demonstrated he close ties that DTU enjoys with local tertiary and secondary education. In this way, DTU has made a significant contribution to the development of the students and enhanced their research skills and competitiveness.
