Duy Tan Dream

The Historic Contributions of a Vietnamese Educator

As teacher in the 1960s, Mr. Le Cong Co understands thoroughly the challenges of an educator and how these affect Duy Tan University teachers and students. At DTU, the staff devote themselves to the education of young people and teach them how to function well in society, how to maintain traditional Vietnamese customs and how to prove their patriotism through their accomplishments.

Mr. Le Cong Co, Chairman of the DTU Management Board

As a member of the Vietnamese army fighting foreign invaders, Mr. Co understood the role of a leader. With the philosophy of “Replacing people who think they are irreplaceable”, from the very beginnings of DTU, he has overcome the evils of "ego, lust, hatred and delusion” that is not easily achieved by everyone. He also knows how difficult it is for students to obtain an advanced education with limited financial resources. That is the reason why DTU was the first university to grant loans and other assistance to needy students. The former Head of the Quang Nam-Danang National Assembly expressed this opinion about DTU’s achievements: “DTU has done well following government directives to socialize education. Their 12,000 DTU graduates are now contributing to the development of Central Vietnam and country as a whole. With the Vietnamese spirit and the traditions of the Duy Tan movement in modern times, DTU adheres to the requirements of economic development and rapidly adapts to advanced technology and practical experience in order to educate the young generation for the industrialization and modernization of Vietnam”.

While devoting 50 years of his life to the development of Vietnamese education, Mr.Co has always strived to broaden the education and experience of his students with his simple motto “Let’s do something good in this life and, when we die, will be remembered forever. This has been my lifetime philosophy and I now feel completely at ease with those words now”.
