Inauguration of BK Holdings–DTU Innovation Center

It is one of a series of events co-organized by BK Holdings (belonging to HUST) and DTU together with the National Startup Support Center (NSSC, of the Ministry of Science & Technology) and the Danang city Department of Science & Technology.

Over 400 delegates - policy planners, university leaders, researchers, lecturers, and representatives of innovation ecosystems including startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, experts, and investment funds - took part in the Conference for UNIVERSITY–BUSINESS CONNECTIONS, the inauguration of the BK Holdings–DTU Innovation Center, and the launch of TECHFEST Central Vietnam & Central Highlands.

The participating delegates described the current status and proposed many solutions to boost innovations and entrepreneurship in university education.

Accordingly, universities currently do not yet sufficiently play their role in the innovation ecosystem. Specifically, scientific research is not yet truly linked with economic demand and is mainly focused on training & research, and priority and commensurate investment is still lacking for innovation, commercialization and technology transfer.

Many universities in Vietnam lack boards for technology transfer and consultancy for and support of technology transfer and research commercialization. Most centers or units for technology commercialization at universities do not possess legal personhood and can therefore not easily borrow money. Not even 3% of research results obtained at universities are successfully commercialized.

Promoting innovation in lecturing, research, and entrepreneurship at universities will turn universities into the cores of innovation ecosystems; establishing relations between universities, businesses, and authorities is imperative to boost the development of a science & technology market.

The conference furthermore saw sharing of knowledge, practical lessons, and exemplary operating models to promote innovation and commercializing technology transfer at universities in Vietnam, aimed at boosting innovation and establishing relations between universities, businesses, and authorities in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands.

Alongside the inauguration of the BK Holdings - DTU Innovation Center, collaboration agreements between representatives of authorities, businesses, and the universities were signed at the conference to promote innovation, science, and technology in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands.
