On the morning of June 16th 2009, a preliminary review of the two-year student loan program was held simultaneously in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang and Can Tho. The conference was led by Deputy Prime Minister, soon-to-be Minister of Education and Training, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan.
Attendees included representatives from departments, boards, organizations and universities nationwide.
Since the program was established, there have been significant improvements in the support of millions of poor students and in the living standards of their families. The program demonstrated the concerted government efforts to train the future Vietnamese workforce. At the conference, attendees related personal experiences derived from the program.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Thoi, Head of Student Affairs of DTU said “Two years after its implementation the program has helped over 7,000 students. DTU has actively cooperated with the Viet Bank for Social Policies to support the program.”
The Deputy Prime, Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan, emphasized: “After 2 years, we can affirm that there are no longer poor students in our country who have to stop studying due to lack of money. We also commit that the Government will try its best to allocate funds for this program”.
