On October 21, DTU opened the 2023-2024 school year after the summer break, bringing new joys and hopes, especially to first-year students. The university awarded scholarships and tuition exemptions with a total value of 19 billion VND to encourage and motivate the new students.

The opening was attended by DTU department leaders, Danang government committees and foreign partners. DTU Provost Dr. Le Nguyen Bao emphasized, “Currently, as 4.0 technology develops, Artificial Intelligence, AI, is emerging strongly and could become an indispensable part of our lives. Many ask if it will replace humans, if AI can do everything, do we still need to study at university? Remember however, there’s much knowledge that AI can accumulate, but that knowledge belongs to you, not to AI.
“Currently, AI is limited to developing knowledge and ideas in fields like poetry, story-writing and drawing, based on what already exists, its humans who create knowledge, create new things, things that have never existed before, such as AI itself, which will always be merely a support tool for human development, and can never replace us. So university studies continue to enable us to acquire the vital knowledge and skills that will allow us to develop ourselves and our lives. Meanwhile, the world is constantly moving and developing, so you must always ensure that you do everything in your power to keep up with the times, to succeed in your work and lives.
With a university degree, your future will certainly become much easier and brighter. I wish you all, and especially the new K29 students, a school year full of success and beautiful memories.”
DTU awarded Certificates of Merit and prizes to freshmen with the highest High School Graduation Exam (HSGE) results, and awarded full and partial scholarships to the new students, together with per-major priority scholarships covering 30% of tuition and exemptions for those with difficulties caused by natural disasters and floods in Central Vietnam, valued at 19 billion VND. This demonstrated DTU’s commitment to ensuring fair learning opportunities and encouraging comprehensive development of its students, as well as the university’s compassion and sense of social responsibility.

H’ Mi Sa Kbuor of the class of K29, majoring in Public Relations had the highest HSGE score, of 28.26, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit and a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop.

“I learned about DTU through higher-year students at my high school and through the press,” said H’ Mi Sa Kbuor. “I used to dream about studying at DTU, but my family’s finances were limited. However, just a few days after I received my HSGE scores, DTU phoned me, changed my life and my dream came true, so I was surprised and happy. To come to today’s opening ceremony has been a long journey, including hours of staying up late and waking up early to study hard, and never giving up, thanks to the support and companionship of my parents, teachers and friends.
My name is H’ Mi Sa Kbuor. Kbuor is my surname, not my given name like everyone else. Its my mother’s surname because I’m ethnically a Rade. I come from a place where there’s lots of joy and laughter, but still many outdated customs and injustices. Sixteen-year-old girls are forced into marriage, eight-year-olds are not yet literate, and sisters and mothers cry silently because of poverty and hunger. However, I don’t want my people to be left behind, I want to see everyone happy, with better lives. For me, constantly studying hard and spreading good values is a noble mission. All of us here have more than others, we can study, have fun, be creative, and develop in many ways. So why do we still lock ourselves up rather than aiming for the sky? Let’s work together and do what we can, not only for ourselves, but also to satisfy our mothers’ dreams, share our fathers’ burdens, for our people, for our nation. Always look forward to achieving your goals, because ‘keeping going is what gets you there’.”
In 2022, Dr. Mo Chul Min arrived at DTU to work as Provost of its Hospitality & Tourism Institute. At the 2023 opening ceremony, DTU announced his nomination to the position of DTU Vice-Provost, from 2023-2025. Dr. Min obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, a Bachelor of Public Policy from Seoul National University in South Korea, and a Master’s degree and a PhD in Tourism & Entertainment from the University of Oregon in the US. During the following 35 years, from 1982 to 2017, he held many key positions in the South Korean government, including: Director of the Department of Tourism Industry of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, & Tourism (MCST); General Secretary to the Minister of Culture & Tourism at the MCST; Vice-Minister of Culture, Sports, & Tourism; Senior Secretary General of the South Korean President on Education, Culture, Sports & Tourism; and Ambassador to France.
