“I was a soldier once” explained Professor Co. “I experienced the fierce resistance of our people and understand the hardships and sacrifices of the soldiers on the frontline protecting our borders. Every time we hear of soldiers performing this sacred duty, it is our duty to boost their morale. At DTU our strategy involving social responsibility is clearly defined. We must continue to instill patriotism and the tradition of showing our gratitude to our staff, lecturers and students. I hope we can arrange more meetings like this one to implement some inspirational practical activities for our soldiers on the Spratly Islands.”

Because of their love for the Spratly Islands, the DTU leadership personally presented gifts with a total value of 125 million VND to representatives of the 33 military outposts there. This money was raised through a series of fund-raising programs at DTU to benefit the soldiers on duty in the Truong Sa Island district, as well as a text messaging system to support the fishermen in the Paracel and Spratly Islands, even cultural program to research the most memorable songs about Vietnam’s seas and islands.

“We are highly honored to welcome the DTU delegation to present gifts to the 146th Brigade,” said Colonel Ngo Dinh Xuyen, Brigade Commander and Vice-Chairman of the Truong Sa district People’s Committee. “In December, we have scheduled many major events as our soldiers prepare to set sail to protect our country’s frontline islands during Spring. On behalf of the Brigade command, I’d like to thank the DTU management board, lecturers and students for their special visit, their caring and their words of encouragement to the officers and soldiers of the 146th Brigade.”

It has traditionally been the social responsibility for DTU to patriotically show their continuing gratitude to our staff, lecturers, and students. At the same time, we have also focused on following and rewarding the officers and soldiers on duty, who are protecting our seas and islands on the borders of our Fatherland.

During the visit, the DTU students were presented with the actual Vietnamese national flag flown by the officers and soldiers on duty at Pearson Reef on the Spratly Islands, which they had been guarding closely, day and night.
