DTU Scientists Discover Fungi Causing Root Rot in Ngoc Linh Ginseng and New Species of Snake and Toad
A groundbreaking discovery of two fungal species, Fusarium stercicola and Fusarium babinda, which cause root rot in Ngoc Linh ginseng, has been published in the European Journal of Plant Pathology (SCIE, IF=1.9), significantly contributing to efforts to protect this rare medicinal plant of Vietnam. The team also identified two strains, Streptomyces owasiensis and a new strain designated X18, which can inhibit the growth of Fusarium fungi and help the ginseng plants absorb nutrients more effectively.
Additionally, a new species of pit viper, the Vang Vieng pit viper (Protobothrops flavirostris), was discovered and published in Herpetozoa (ISI, Q2), and a new finding regarding the common toad (a venomous species) was published in Nature Communications (Q1, SCIE, IF=13.46). These discoveries help clarify biodiversity and provide an important scientific basis for the management and conservation of wildlife.
