Two DTU teams qualify for finals

Seven teams participated in the qualifying round at DTU, three from DTU, two from the Telecommunications University in Nha Trang, one from the Danang University of Technology and another from Quang Binh University.

33 teams from 14 institutions entered in North Vietnam and 32 teams from 14 institutions in the South, which is the most ever from the South. This is the 12th year the contest has been held in Vietnam, but the first time it has been expanded to include the entire ASEAN region.

Teams are tested online in the qualifying rounds and finals. In the qualifiers, contestants are tested for eight hours, based on the “Capture the Flag” (CTF) program, overcoming challenges by subject (Jeopardy), modeled as a war game focusing on network attack and defense skills.

In Danang, the three DTU teams successfully took the first three places, the ISITDTU came first, ISITDTU2 second and ISITDTU3 third. ISITDTU and ISITDTU2 will be among Vietnam’s ten best teams in the finals.

The contest objective is to broaden student experience and guarantee the graduation of highly-qualified Information Security experts. Additional opportunities this year through international testing and exchanges with other ASEAN members have expanded Vietnamese students’ scope even further.

The Ministries of Education and Training and Information and Communications continue to be the main sponsors of the contest, which continues to be a valuable annual event for all. With increasing awareness of the importance of Information Security in universities, the contest also helps locate and foster some of the most talented students, promote innovative teaching methods, more research, international exchanges and partnerships.

The contest also paves the way to the implementation of the “Information Security and Safety education and development in 2020” project, approved by the Prime Minister on January 14, 2014. On the annual NISA Vietnam Information Security Day, it provides a framework to advance Vietnam to become the regional hub for network security.

This year, the main sponsors are the Army Telecommunications Industry Corporation (Viettel), the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Vietnam Airlines, with Netnam JSC providing the networking infrastructure.
