DTU students of architecture & construction are highly regarded for their creativity and impressive design skills:

In the international arena of 2023, DTU students of architecture & construction once again won the championship at the Asia–Pacific IDEERS competition to design earthquake-resistant buildings (after a first win nine years ago in 2014). This prestigious Asian competition in civil engineering sees participation from leading universities across the continent, such as Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (China), Pusan National University (South Korea), National Taiwan University (China), and Pukyong National University (South Korea).

In the national arena in 2024:

A graduation project by DTU students of Civil Engineering won second prize at the Loa Thanh Award - the highest prize awarded in the category of Engineering & Technology (no first prize was awarded), graded by the Vietnam Construction Association. Their project “Hospital, High-End Apartment, & Education Complex”, based on preliminary architectural designs for which the Danang Urban Planning Institute was about to complete a 1:500-scale master plan with an area of 21 311 m², meets practical design requirements. DTU students have won twenty more Loa Thanh awards over the years, including the only first prize nationwide in 2010.

At the 14th National Architecture Student Festival in 2024, DTU students won one well-rounded prize, one second prize, and four third prizes in various categories. DTU students have also won numerous other awards throughout the year in competitions such as Sao Bien, the painting contest “Blooming Poland”, the 2024 watercolor contest “Hanoi: A Thousand Years of Civilization”, and the Spring Floral Display & Lighting Decoration contest.

These outstanding results by DTU students reflect the in-depth infrastructure investment and the extensive collaboration between the university and various domestic and international institutions. Of note is the collaboration and transfer of training programs with:

-    California State University Fullerton: a leading public university on the US West Coast for Civil Engineering, and
-    Cal Poly San Luis Obispo: ranked in the US top 5 for architecture at the undergraduate level

to implement the first advanced programs in architecture & construction in Danang and the rest of Central Vietnam.

DTU currently offers the following programs:

CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING: minors in

?    Civil & Industrial Engineering,
?    CSU-standard Civil & Industrial Engineering (advanced program).

CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY: minors in

-    Construction Engineering Management,
-    Building Operations and Management.

TRANSPORT CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING: minor in:

-    Road & Bridge Construction

ARCHITECTURE: minors in

-    Architecture,
-    CSU-standard Architecture (advanced program)

INTERIOR DESIGN
GRAPHIC DESIGN
FASHION DESIGN

Along with Construction & Architecture students who are highly sought after by businesses, students of Environmental Technology & Engineering and of Environmental Resources are also among the groups where every single student finds employment upon graduation.

Another thing that sets students in environmental fields apart is their practical work skills, which meet the demands of businesses exceptionally well. This is because, throughout their studies, DTU students are actively involved in scientific research alongside their lecturers to grasp, experience, and gain practical knowledge through activities such as: household waste treatment, textile wastewater treatment, aquaculture wastewater treatment, marine environmental quality assessment after the Formosa incident, and more recently, research and consulting for the Danang city authorities on urgent issues like landslides, beach erosion, saltwater intrusion in groundwater, and water resources during drought seasons.

Like mini factories, the practical rooms at DTU’s 120 Hoang Minh Thao campus, Danang always serve the needs of Electrical Engineering students and given them a place to experiment and create products with startup value that support the community.

Recently in late 2024, the “Active Prosthetic Leg” by the FLEXILEG team beat all other teams to win first prize at the 2024 ASEAN Green Entrepreneurship Hackathon. The product, with its unique design for people with disabilities, has entrepreneurial potential and also a humanitarian aspect: it provides an opportunity for disadvantaged individuals with disabilities to access a high-quality product at an affordable price. This achievement highlights the creativity, application of advanced technology, and entrepreneurial spirit of Vietnamese students in the context of international integration.

Besides the “Active Prosthetic Leg”, DTU students and their lecturers have designed several other community-focused products:

-    electric wheelchairs for people with disabilities in difficult circumstances,
-    robotics arms donated to children in Quang Nam,
-    a robot for inspecting ship welding,
-    the Smartbed,
-    the LISA Smart Robot, which can guide in both English and Vietnamese.

Recently, six young women from DTU won first prize in the category “Topics and technological solutions in processing” at the 2024 Post-Harvest Processing Technology contest with their product “Artistic blooming tea from green lotus flowers”. The product received high praise for its advanced production process, which causes the tea to bloom when brewed and creates a stunning visual effect in the teapot while ensuring nutritional value and food safety.

Previously, Food Technology students developed the following products:

-    Coffee Jam, which won second prize (no first prize was awarded) at the 2022 national Post-Harvest Processing Technology contest, and second prize at the 2022 contest “Creative Products of Danang City”,
-    the “Research into the influence of harvesting time on nutritional composition of Oriental mustard sprouts” won second prize at the 6th “Food Safety & Security” scientific conference in 2022.
-    Beyond product development, DTU students of Food Technology also directly engage in designing and packaging to create products that are not only visually appealing but also commercially viable and community-oriented.

Automotive Engineering students have the best conditions to thrive since DTU’s Company for Visualization & Simulation (CVS) officially launched its science & technology product “Comprehensive Simulation and Interaction Technology in Smart Automotive Engineering Training”. The product is designed to allow students to move beyond theory, engage directly with 3D simulation technology and interactive learning, and acquire technical and mechanical knowledge in automotive engineering.

At the same time, in the laboratories from over 20 billion VND of investment with equipment from South Korea, Germany, Japan, etc., DTU students can always get hands-on experience in safe driving or practice with training devices for traditional gasoline and diesel vehicles, as well as for new electric vehicles.
