In 2023, DTU created a new recognizable and trustworthy academic brand, respected in the hearts and minds of peers and colleagues worldwide. On the eve of the new year, new expectations continue to evolve and DTU teachers and students continue to steadily become even more creative, innovative and self-confident adapting to this ever-changing world. DTU Listed in the 2024 Top 500+ Universities Internationally
In 2024, DTU is listed higher academically, now at 514 in the QS World University rankings, up from the 801-1000 group last year. The university was also in the Top 100+ (ranked 115th in Asia) and 24th in Southeast Asia, according to the 2024 QS Asia University Rankings. DTU was also ranked 455th worldwide, 100th in Asia and first in Vietnam by QS World Sustainability in 2024. DTU was also ranked in the Top 600+ Best World Universities by Times Higher Education rankings 2024.

First UNWTO Tourism Conference in Vietnam, at DTU
From November 13 to 16, the 17th “United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Asia/Pacific Executive Training Program on Tourism Policy & Strategy” conference took place for the first time at a Vietnamese university, namely Duy Tan University, attended by senior government leaders, tourism administrators and others.
Through a series of presentations and discussions, the Training Programme provides a welcoming forum in which public sector tourism executives gain a better understanding of the latest trends in tourism policy. It also provides a platform for sharing knowledge and experience, to learn of successful practices in policy and strategy formulation and implementation. DTU has greatly contributed to the education of high-quality tourism personnel and is the only Vietnamese university to have been awarded UNWTO TedQual accreditation for its programs in: International Hotel Management and International Restaurant Operations Management. The 17th UNWTO Asia/Pacific Executive Training Programme on Tourism Policy and Strategy attracted 49 high-level officials within their respective governments across Asia and the Pacific region, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Japan, Iran, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and so on.

An Agreement with Samsung who sponsored High-Configuration Computers to the DTU IT Lab
On May 23, Samsung Electronic Vietnam Co., Ltd, DTU and Junior Achievement Vietnam signed a cooperation agreement to implement the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC) project at DTU. Samsung donated thirty high-configuration computers to the DTU IT Lab to train a highly qualified local workforce. In 2023-2024, three IT courses will be offered, in addition to a course in basic coding & programming skills:
- Internet of Things - IoT,
- Artificial Intelligence - AI,
- Big Data, and
- Coding & Programming.
At the same time, in 2023, DTU participated in a Robicon science & technology contest and won both first and second prizes. The event is coordinated by Samsung with several universities around Vietnam to allow students to demonstrate their technological knowledge and skills. Consequently, with 25 DTU students competing in the SIC project Big Data training course, 12 were selected to intern at the Samsung R&D Center in Hanoi in addition to another 8 of the best students.

Former Senior Secretary General of the South Korean President on Education, Culture, Sports & Tourism Dr. Mo Chul Min was appointed Vice-Provost of DTU
In 2022, Dr. Mo Chul Min arrived at DTU to work as Dean of the Hospitality & Tourism Institute. At the 2023 opening ceremony, DTU announced his nomination to the position of DTU Vice-Provost, from 2023-2025. Dr. Mo Chul Min obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, a Bachelor of Public Policy from Seoul National University in South Korea, and a Master’s degree and a PhD in Tourism & Entertainment from the University of Oregon in the US. During the following 35 years, from 1982 to 2017, he held many key positions in the South Korean government, including: Director of the Department of Tourism Industry of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, & Tourism (MCST); General Secretary to the Minister of Culture & Tourism at the MCST; Vice-Minister of Culture, Sports, & Tourism; Senior Secretary General of the South Korean President on Education, Culture, Sports & Tourism; and Ambassador to France.

DTU Researchers Ranked amongst the World’s Most Influential Scientists
DTU researchers continued at be ranked highly on the list of scientists internationally, according to the Research.com:
- Associate Professor Bui Quoc was ranked 3rd in Vietnam and 410th worldwide in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering
- Dr. Anand Nayyar ranked 2nd in Vietnam and 9,867th worldwide in Computer Science
- Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc came 3rd in Vietnam and 9,960th worldwide in Computer Science
- Dr. Tran Nguyen finished 2nd in Vietnam and 4,687th worldwide in Environmental Studies
- Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai was ranked 603rd and Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc 968th among the Rising Stars of Science in 2023, they both entered the list of the World’s Most Influential Scientists, ranked 6,669 and 5,551, respectively.

DTU journal in ESCI and Scopus Index
In 2023, the International Journal of Knowledge and Systems Science - IJKSS was approved for inclusion in the ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index - Clarivate), with an IF of 1.0. IJKSS was also added to the ACM, INSPEC and 11 other leading databases. Previously, it had been approved for inclusion in the SCOPUS database.
Currently, IJKSS is classified as Q2 and Q3, specifically:
- Management and Strategy, Technology and Innovation Management, Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior classified as Q2
- Decision Science (Information Systems and Management) classified as Q2;
- Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems) classified as Q3
Another DTU journal classified as Q2 and entitled: “EAI Endorsed Transactions on Industrial Networks and Intelligent Systems” was added to the SCOPUS database by the Content Selection & Advisory Board (CSAB).

DTU Wins the 2023 IDEERS Asia-Pacific Contest and Two Gold Medals at the 32nd SEA Games
DTU students succeeded in both academic and sports contests in 2023.
Academically:
- A first prize and the Champions’ Cup, and a third prize went to DTU at the 2023 IDEERS Asia-Pacific contest in Taiwan, in September 2023
- DTU came second in the expert general group at the 2023 ASEAN Cyber Shield Information Security contest in Jakarta, Indonesia, with a prize of $10,000
- DTU won first prize at the 2023 VietFuture Future Innovation Award contest organized by VINASA, with a paper entitled ‘Using rice husks and nylon to produce construction materials’.
The 2023 IDEERS Asia-Pacific contest was attended by teams from leading Asian universities, presenting topics on earthquake research, including Nanyang Technological University from Singapore, the Taiwan National University of Science & Technology, (ROC), and the Pusan National University from South Korea. This was the second time in nine years that DTU won this important competition.
In sports:
- Nguyen Huu Kim Son, from DTU Business Administration, won a gold medal in the men’s swimming 4 × 200 m freestyle relay and a silver in the men’s 1500 m freestyle
- In addition, Kim Son also won another three gold and two bronze medals at the 2023 National Swimming & Diving Championships
- Le Thi Nhi, a Tourism student, won a gold in kickboxing in the women’s 50 kg event
- Hoai Yen, a PSU-standard Tourism & Travel Management student won a gold in the women’s pole vault, with a jump of 3.80 m at the 2023 National Athletics Championship in October 2023.
- The DTU women’s team came second at the 2023 Vietnam National Student Volleyball Tournament
- On Christmas Day in 2023, the DTU men’s futsal team won a prestigious national Champions’ Cup at the 9th VUG Futsal Championship

2023 DTU Valedictorian with 28.25/30 points and many high-scoring applicants chose DTU for its dynamic and modern educational environment
In recent years, DTU has been receiving an increasing number of applications from top-scoring High School Graduation Exam (HSGE) students. Scoring 28.25/30 points in her 2023 High School Graduation Exam, H’Mi Sa Kbuor in Ðak Lak becames DTU Valedictorian and received a DTU scholarship fully covering all tuition costs to study Public Relations. Four more high-scoring applicants chose DTU for its dynamic and modern educational environment, including Le Thi Phong from Thanh Hoa scored d?t 27.9/30 points and studied International Tour guide in Chinese; Le Thi A Na from Thanh Hoa scored 27.9/30 and studied Event Management; Bui Dinh Thang from Ha Tinh scored 27.9/30 and studied Hotel Management; Nguyen Thuy Trang from Kon Tum scored 27.52/30 and studied Multi Media.

New Rooms Become Operational in Building G at 120 Hoang Minh Thao, and 3 Quang Trung
DTU has opened building G at its 120 Hoang Minh Thao campus in Hoa Khanh Nam, and, at the same time, consolidated several rooms at its 3 Quang Trung Tower in Danang. Rooms are all equipped with the latest technology for training and research, ranked at ‘5 stars’. At the 3 Quang Trung Tower, a new library was put into operation, and another four floors dedicated to conferences and seminars, including a large auditorium and six large meeting rooms. The tower is now the new headquarters of the DTU Board of Directors, along with the Hospitality & Tourism Institute (HTi) and the School of Computer Science (SCS). Building G is the new headquarters of the International School (IS) and the Silver Swallow Studio (SSS).

DTU Presents Gifts to Sailors of the 4th Naval Region and Volunteer Blood Donation and Free Dental Treatment Programs
On December 19, the DTU leadership presented gifts with a value of 163 million VND to the 33 military outposts. In addition, DTU donated 5 computers to the Political Department of the Navy Region 4 Command, and 20 computers to the 146th Brigade.
In 2023, DTU staff, lecturers and students have also provided free dental care for people in remote areas. In addition, the school continues to carry out three blood donation days a year. All blood units were sent to the Hue Regional Blood Transfusion Center at Hue Central Hospital for distribution to hospitals all the way from Quang Binh to Quang Nam province. The donated blood could save many lives or contribute to the recovery of patients.
