On March 22nd, Quacquarelli Symonds, (QS), a UK educational organization, published their rankings of the world's leading universities by subject, covering around 1,600 institutions. The five criteria that determine the QS World University rankings are: Academic Reputation; Employer Reputation; Research Citations per Paper; the H-index; and International Research Networking.
Fifty-four disciplines were surveyed, and two Vietnamese universities were ranked in the top 100 in three topics and fifteen disciplines. In Hospitality & Leisure Management, DTU was ranked in the 51-100 range for the first time, and Vietnam National University placed for the second time in the same range for their Engineering Petroleum program.
Vietnam was also placed in the top 300 in two other majors, including DTU at 201-230 in Civil Engineering & Structural Engineering, and Ton Duc Thang University at 251-300 in Mathematics.
Vietnamese universities were also ranked in three of the broad subject areas:
- In Engineering & Technology, DTU ranked 326th, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology and VNU-HCM both ranked 401-450, and the Vietnam National University in Hanoi ranked 451-500
- In Natural Sciences, DTU and Vietnam National University in Hanoi were both ranked 451-500
- In Social Sciences & Management, DTU was ranked 451-500 and VNU-HCM 501-530
The three most reputable university ranking organizations internationally are QS, Times Higher Education - THE, in the UK, and Academic Ranking of World Universities, ARWU, in China.
