DTU Rises in the 2023 QS Asia University Rankings

On November 9, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a UK education organization, announced its 2023 Asia University Rankings. Eleven Vietnamese institutions were ranked, including DTU, which moved up to 2nd place in Vietnam, 32nd in Southeast Asia and 145th in Asia.

DTU is presented with “Recognition of Improvement” award  
 
On November 9, in Jakarta, Indonesia, DTU received an “2023 ASIA Recognition of Improvement” award, based on an in-depth evaluation of 7 out of 14 criteria, including teaching, employability, internationalization. Other Vietnamese universities increasing in the 2023 rankings also received the award. 
 
QS Star ranks institutions on their own merits instead of by comparison with others. The assessment process evaluates universities in depth across dozens of indicators in at least 7 out of 14 categories, including the university's reputation, research quality and its ability to attract and retain faculty and students. The award recognized DTU's success in providing the optimum educational environment.
 
In 2023, two universities increased both their Vietnamese and the Asian rankings:
 
- Duy Tan University moved up to second place in Vietnam, 32 in Southeast Asia and 145 in Asia 
- The University of Economics in HCMC rose from 10 to 7 in Vietnam in 2023 and placed 401-450 in 2023 in Asia, compared with 551-600 in 2022
 
Ton Duc Thang University came in first in Vietnam and 138 in Asia. Vietnam National University in HCMC dropped to 4 in Vietnam, but went up 12 places to 167 in Asia. The Hanoi University of Science and Technology finished 248 in Asia, the Vietnam National University in Hanoi at 162; Hue University in the 351-400 group, the University of Economics in HCMC 401-450, the University of Da Nang 501-550 and Can Tho University 551-600. Hanoi University of Education dropped from 551-600 to 601-650 position in Asia and  the Industrial University of HCMC dropped from 601-650 group to 651-700.

QS ranks DTU at 145 in Asia and 32 in Southeast Asia
 
In 2023, QS ranked 760 Asian universities, the most ever. This is also the first year that QS has ranked Asian universities by region, including Southeast, Central Asia, South and East Asia. 
In Southeast Asia, 133 universities are included, 40 from Indonesia, 36 from Malaysia, 25 from Thailand, 16 from the Philippines,11 from Vietnam, 3 from Singapore and 2 from Brunei.

DTU is honored in “Data Engagement” and “Welcome to the World” 
 
In the 2023 QS World University Rankings, DTU made it into the 801-1000 range. At the QS EduData Summit in June 2022, DTU was honored in two sections: “Data Engagement”, a prize for best universities entering the QS World University Rankings for the first time, and “Welcome to the World”, for its commitment to interact and exchange information with QS.

Published annually since 2009, the QS Asia University Rankings highlight the top universities in Asia. The methodology is similar to that of the QS World University Rankings, but with some extra indicators and adapted weightings. In 2023, the 11 ranking criteria are:   
 
- Academic Reputation, (30%)
- Employer Reputation, (20%)
- Faculty-to-Student Ratio, (10%)
- Citations per Faculty, (5%)
- Staff with PhDs, (5%)
- Papers per faculty, (5%)
- Citations per paper, (10%)
- International research network, (10%)
- Proportion of international faculty, (2.5%)
- Proportion of international students, (2.5%)
- Inbound exchange students, (2.5%)
