DTU Counts Two More Associate Professors

Among the 405 candidates the State Council for Professorships awarded the titles of professor or associate professor in 2021, DTU sees two of its people awarded the title of associate professor.
 
They are Assoc.Prof. Dr Ha Dac Binh in Electronics and Assoc.Prof. Dr Tran Xuan Hiep in Political science. The two of them bring the total number of professorships at DTU to 64. 
 
Assoc.Prof. Dr Ha Dac Binh 
 
Assoc.Prof. Dr Ha Dac Binh is the provost of the DTU School of Engineering & Technology (SET) and lectures for the majors in Electricity, Electronics & Communications, and Automation & Control Engineering at the SET. He obtained his PhD in Information & Communication Systems from Huazhong University of Science & Technology, China, in 2010.

Assoc.Prof. Dr Ha Dac Binh
 
Assoc.Prof. Dr Binh’s main research in the last ten years was in key technology for next-generation wireless networks (5G and post-5G), such as multihop routing, MIMO, physical-layer security, non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), radio frequency energy harvesting networks, and mobile edge computing networks.
 
Assoc.Prof. Dr Binh set down many achievements in lecturing and scientific research:
 
? He co-advised one PhD student and advised 31 Master’s students to successful thesis defenses.
? He led and completed four science research projects with university funding and two with national funding (from Nafosted) and worked as main member for two science research projects with national funding and one with university funding.
? He published one textbook and two book chapters.
? Of note, he published over a hundred scientific papers, including 27 in ISI or Scopus indexed journals, 54 in international journals and conferences, and 19 in domestic journals.
 
Assoc.Prof. Dr Binh’s work garnered a total of more than 625 citations and an h-index of 15 (according to Google Scholar).
 
It is remarkable that Assoc.Prof. Dr Dac Binh led two projects with national funding from Nafosted:
 
? Research to design and evaluate communication protocols ensuring physical-layer information security (2014–2016),
? Design and technical evaluation of Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) for 5G networks (2018–2020).
 
These two projects led to many high-quality science publications, contributing to the advancement of next-generation wireless networks. He furthermore received many certificates of merit:
 
? certificate of merit from the Danang People’s Committee Chairman for a science paper in a prestigious journal in 2020,
? certificate of merit from the Danang People’s Committee Chairman for excellent completion of duties in 2016–2017 and 2017–2018,
? in 2017 a certificate of merit from DTU for his scientific research achievements,
? in 2015 a certificate of merit from the Danang Confederation of Labor for exemplary progress in 2010–2015.
 
“Today’s result is thanks to my own work and unceasing struggles the last ten years at DTU,” Assoc.Prof. Dr Dac Binh says on his joy of obtaining the title. “I feel very happy and honored. Furthermore, I am supported by my family and colleagues; DTU created the highly intellectual work environment allowing me reach today’s honor.”
 
For the future, he says he will work on graduate and postgraduate training, strengthen domestic and international collaboration, and create a quantum communications research group at DTU to work on spearhead research, to help lift Vietnam to the global level.
 
Assoc.Prof. Dr Tran Xuan Hiep
 
Assoc.Prof. Dr Tran Xuan Hiep is executive director of the DTU Journal of Science & Technology.
 
The Ha Tinh Newspaper issue of March 15, 2022, noted that, among the 15 candidates from Ha Tinh to be awarded professorships in 2021, Assoc.Prof. Dr Tran Xuan Hiep is the youngest at 38. He also defended his PhD before 30 and received a prize from Hue University.

Of note is that, among the four associate professorships awarded by the State Council for Professorships in 2021 in political science, Assoc.Prof. Dr Tran Xuan Hiep is the only one from Central Vietnam in the block of political science, social sciences, and philosophy.
 
To date, Assoc.Prof. Dr Hiep worked on several scientific research projects with publications in prestigious journals:
 
? He worked as main member on two projects with national funding and three with institutional funding; he chaired or attended many scientific conferences, joined projects to start new majors, appraised training programs, and personally advised many PhD, Master, and Bachelor students.
? He published eight monographs, reference books, and textbooks.
? Of note is that he published over a hundred specialized international papers, including eleven he was main author or coauthor of in ISI or Scopus indexed journals.
 
To obtain today’s achievement and honor, Assoc.Prof. Dr Hiep strove to overcome all his difficulties. “On the journey of studying and scientific research, you’ll go through many difficulties, challenges, and even failures, and you should do all you can,” Assoc.Prof. Dr Hiep explains. “Anyone can be successful provided you’re able to learn humbly, work hard, and especially have faith. If you dare to risk yourself and have aspiration and faith, you can do what you’re dreaming of. To reach this success, I received lots of support, advice, and inspiration from my family, teachers, and friends. I dedicate this honor and pride to everyone with the most heartfelt thanks.”
