The Quacquarelli Symonds Company in the UK recently ranked DTU at 351 in the top 400 Asian universities of 2021, one hundred higher than last year. This recognition continues to strengthen the university’s brand as “The first private university in Vietnam to meet international standards.”

From Zero to Hero
Meritorious Teacher and Hero of Labor Le Cong Co, Chairman of the university Board of Trustees, explained how DTU, since 1994, has become one of Vietnam’s leading university brands. DTU has successfully focused its humanitarian educational model on research, based on the latest business and community demands.
In 2009, DTU received no accreditation for research but, from then onwards, it has become the university beacon. In 2017, after meeting the 10 standards and 61 criteria of the Ministry of Education and Training, DTU was accredited with becoming the first private university in the country to meet research requirements, which established a foundation for the future.
Until 2018, DTU had published 525 papers in international journals listed by ISI and Scopus This was the third consecutive year that DTU had been listed as one of the ten leading education and research institutions in the Nature Index. Among these, five Vietnamese universities were ranked, including four public universities and DTU, the first private university to be recognized.
In 2018, a DTU medical research team, led by Nguyen Tat Cuong published their first paper the New England Journal of Medicine, a leading international medical journal, with an impact factor of 79.258.

A 2019 hat-trick in scientific research
In August 2019, the American Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology (ABET) accredited two DTU programs, Network Engineering and Management Information Systems, to automatically meet 100% of the criteria for the next six years. DTU thus becomes the second university in Vietnam to be accredited by ABET. In November 2019, DTU was one of eight Vietnamese universities to appear in the Quacquarelli Symonds top 500 Asian universities and, in December, the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) announced its 2019-2020 rankings and DTU was the first private university in Vietnam to enter the prestigious list.
In 2020, with the huge challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, DTU proved itself to be proactive, creative and adaptable. By early February, the university had trained lecturers in online teaching, using the Sakai and ZOOM cloud meeting applications. In March, online classes were rapidly and successfully implemented for all students.
The university also proactively investigated ways of combating the disease. The excellent eCPR system, a 3D simulation application for cardiopulmonary resuscitation first aid training, won the 2020 Sao Khue award and three versions of the ventilator were ready for mass production whenever needed. The Danang People’s Committee Chairman, Mr. Huynh Duc Tho, remarked that, “DTU’s research and development of ventilators is a significant contribution to local government and communities struggling to fight Covid-19.”
Late-breaking news is that the DTU Electrical Engineering program recently received an American ABET accreditation for the next six years, in addition to the two other accredited programs (above).
DTU Acting Vice-Provost, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, explained how the university’s achievements resulted from the original, well-conceived academic strategy. The fundamental issues were to assemble teams highly-qualified lecturers, plan the academic programs, focus on the latest teaching methods and improve the standard of education, facilities and equipment. In 2019 alone, DTU published 1,141 papers in international journals indexed by ISI and Scopus, a 217% annual increase.
