Webometrics has just published their ranking of universities worldwide, which shows several changes among Vietnam’s ten leading universities.

The Hanoi University of Science & Technology is ranked top in Vietnam, rose 207 places since January 2020 and is now 1,036th worldwide. Vietnam National University in Hanoi rose by 36 and now ranks second in Vietnam and 1,096th internationally.

All the other universities in the Vietnamese top ten in January 2020 are still included and all have made impressive increases in Vietnam and the world. Ton Duc Thang University is up 504 places to become third in Vietnam and 1,818th worldwide. Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City went up 223 places, and Can Tho University 57.
DTU is the only private university on the list, ranked ninth in Vietnam and 3,134th in the world. Other private universities ranked in Webometrics are FPT University, 40th in Vietnam and 7,183rd worldwide, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, 41st and 7,206th, HUTECH University, 43rd and 7,732nd and Van Lang University, 45th and 7,894th respectively.
Webometrics ranks universities based on a composite indicator that measures internet activity and the visibility and impact of online publications according to the number of hits received, updated twice a year.
Webometrics Ranking System evaluates the comprehensive overview of a university and academic institutions are ranked based on the following 4 indicators:
- PRESENCE: (5%): Represents the total number of webpages hosted in the main web domain of the university as indexed by Google.
- IMPACT (or VISIBILITY): (50%): Number of external networks (subnets) linking to the institution's webpages. Data is collected from Ahref and Majestic.
- TRANSPARENCY (or OPENNESS): (10%): Number of citations from the main authors by Google Scholar citations.
- EXCELLENCE (or SCHOLAR): (35%): This indicator shows how many academic papers are published in high impact international journals.
