The awards ceremony for the third Startup Idea - Startup Wheel contest was hosted by DTU on April 14th. One second prize, two thirds and one consolation prize were awarded to the teams with the most impressive ideas.

Dr Vo Thanh Hai, DTU Vice-Provost and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said “The Startup Wheel contest gives students an opportunity to demonstrate their ideas and startup products and to realize their dream of becoming successful. We have chosen the most practical projects which might prove the most useful in our community and, at the same time, attract potential investors. DTU will continue to provide their support and create the best environment for students to perfect their projects.”
A Certificate of Merit is awarded to the second-placed team
The DTU CNC team won second prize, worth six million VND with their project “Research into Production Improvements to a High-Tech Machine”. Their idea is to automate the production of sculpture to reduce manual workers and generate higher profits. Two third prizes, worth 4 million VND each, went to the Coats group with “Warm Apparel for Livestock” project and to Doan Ngoc Quynh Tien, a student of the 10/24 class at the Phan Chau Trinh High School, with the idea of designing a talking school bag. The project “A Solar Navigation System Using IOT-Tobsolar”, by the Tobsolar team of the Danang University of Architecture and the Danang University of Economics, won a consolation prize worth one million VND. A prize for the Most Outstanding Individual was awarded to Doan Ngoc Quynh Tien and a community-voted prize was given to the Smac team from the Vietnam–Korea Friendship IT College with their “Training a Workforce and Providing Software Services” project.
Doan Ngoc Quynh Tien, of the Talking Bag project, said, “I love business and have a huge passion for designing unique and weird school bags to express the owner’s personality. This is why DTU’s Startup Wheel is a useful place for me to unleash my ideas. The critique and feedback taught me a valuable lesson, increased my confidence and creativity and ways of perfecting my concepts.”
The 2016 Startup Wheel contest was highly successful in stimulating student creativity and encouraging and motivating them to develop their business potential. With financial support, the learning environment and skills provided by DTU, the contest is an important first step towards the realization of the students’ dreams of becoming successful.
