On May 14th, DTU organized the international seminar “ASEAN Community after 2015: Opportunities and Challenges” in Danang. It was attended by members of the Association of Universities and Colleges of ASEAN.
Taking place in parallel with the 4th Partner Meeting of the Association of Universities and Colleges of ASEAN (P2A) being organized in Danang, the seminar “ASEAN Community after 2015: Opportunities and Challenges” gathered almost all members of P2A (counting 45 universities and colleges in 10 ASEAN nations).
The goal of the seminar was to increase mutual understanding between the universities and research institutes of the ASEAN region, thus contributing to the development of the ASEAN Community after 2015. At the same time, it also aimed at disseminating the newest research results of national and international scholars and researchers about the ASEAN Community after 2015, and the contributions of universities and research institutes to the development of ASEAN, which includes the positive participation of Vietnam towards realizing this model.

Over 110 research papers from 26 national and international institutes and universities were submitted for the seminar. The organizers chose 50 high-quality papers for publishing and talks at the seminar. There were many meaningful presentations, such as “Discussion of the vision of the ASEAN Economic Community after 2015 and some issues” presented by Dr Nguyen Huy Hoang, Deputy Director of the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies - Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences; “ASEAN Economic Community: just the beginning” by Dr R. Murhadi of the University of Surabaya, Indonesia; and “Building an ASEAN identity: Process and initial results” by Dr Tran Xuan Hiep, Dean of the DTU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
At the seminar, Mr. Phung Tan Viet, Vice-Chairman Danang of People’s Committee expressed his appreciation for the role the Association of Universities and Colleges of ASEAN (P2A) is playing in research collaboration in science, technology, economy, culture, social sciences, etc. which will help develop the ASEAN Community, and with it the city of Danang.
On this note, the Vice-Chairman promised to create all conditions necessary for DTU and its partners in P2A to be able to collaborate constructively, to make P2A develop ever more - because the development of P2A will contribute to the development of the city.
