DTU, Proud of its Vietnamese Spirit, Writes the Opening Chapter of “Passage to ASEAN” 2015

In the midle of June 2012 in Rangsit, Thailand, DTU as only representative from Vietnam together with four other universities - Norton University Cambodia, National University of Laos, Myanmar Computer Institute, and representatives of host Rangsit University - wrote the opening chapter in that journey of integration named Passage to ASEAN (P2A).

2015 can be considered a historic milestone for the ASEAN countries, because the birth of the ASEAN Community will open a new chapter in regional ties. As part of it, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to be officially proclaimed on December 31, 2015 - one of the three pillars of the ASEAN Community, together with the Security and Socio-Cultural pillars - is a turning point marking the global integration of the Southeast Asian economies. It will bring many opportunities, but also its share of challenges due to competition on commodity and job markets.

In a context where awareness of these radical changes in the business community as well as in the educational system training and developing human resources for our country has not taken root, DTU always focuses on its objective of training workers that can function not only in Vietnam, but especially in the nations of the region and of the entire world with the motto “We do everything for Student Rights and Future Careers”. Right since its inception, it partnered up with other universities and institutions in the ASEAN countries to quickly create a program of linking all universities in Southeast Asia, aimed at bringing students from the different nations closer together, to study together, share and build friendships, and to exchange knowledge, experience, and their understanding of the ASEAN Community. The united founding nations then launched this program under the name Passage to ASEAN (P2A).

“I highly appreciate the P2A efforts, encompassing universities from all 10 ASEAN nations. This program will make awareness of ASEAN an everyday issue, and it will help linking and sharing, especially about history, culture, and the interests of the ASEAN countries. When our future generations begin their journey in life, they will learn to know each other; they will get deep understanding, respect and gratitude for each other’s similarities and differences. Through trust for each other, and through programs such as P2A, we hope to create a peaceful and prosperous region.”

At the third annual P2A meeting, the representative of the DTU Board of Provosts announced that the fourth annual P2A meeting would be held at DTU on May 14, 2015.

P2A was created from the hope to promote the formation of a block of regional solidarity, of sharing human responsibility with society, and also to boost resources and skills to aim at a shared ASEAN Community.

Through participation in P2A, students from Southeast Asian countries will be able to enjoy learning and exchange with P2A member higher education institutes for the best fees available to anyone. Through P2A, students will not only acquire the professional skills and standards the ASEAN Community recognizes, but they will also be prepared with skills of environmental protection; cultural heritage conservation; respect for independence, sovereignty, and equality; respect for ethnicity, language, religion, and law; as well as with common values of the countries in the ASEAN region, such as unity in diversity. P2A is a really necessary program to promote lifelong learning and to create a high-quality workforce meeting the demands of the international labor market. Proud to be the first Vietnamese university taking part in the founding of P2A, DTU is opening great opportunities in training and cooperation, to bring Vietnam’s students - the future generations of the country - up to par with their international peers, in the spirit of the slogan that has been accompanying DTU for 20 years already: “Vietnamese Spirit, Innovation, Creativity, Reaching for New Heights!”
