Since joining the CDIO initiative in 2012, DTU has applied the framework of their advanced education to improve quality and efficiency, in order to increase the number of highly-qualified graduates into the local workforce and enhance the reputation of Vietnam globally.
The University of Technology, part of the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City, hosted the 2015 Asian Region CDIO Meeting from March 25th to 27th. A report on “The Bilateral Benefits of Applying the CDIO method at DTU to partner and exchange programs internationally”, presented by Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, Dean of the Environmental Department confirmed the commitment of DTU to the CDIO concept and received high praise from the audience.

The annual CDIO meeting enables attendees to share their recent experiences implementing CDIO methods to broaden partnership opportunities with other universities and discussed ways of enhancing student exchange programs and the CDIO initiative in general. With the theme of “CDIO Implementation for Engineering Education and Beyond”, more than 150 delegates attended from universities and companies in the region and from around the world.
Delegates discussed the strict corporate requirements for engineering graduates, the relationships between universities and companies, advanced learning experiences and ways of improving teamwork and Capstone skills. They also proposed developing some new international student exchange programs, such as the Regio Youth Innovation Camp, Learning Express and the Symposium on Advancing SDIO. In addition, they also put forward plans to implement CDIO for non-engineering programs and for quality verification.
Delegates admitting new members of the CDIO Association
DTU was the second institution and the only private university in Vietnam to become a member in 2012. DTU has now applied the CDIO model to engineering education.
Using CDIO, DTU recently developed a partnership with Singapore Polytechnic University and every year lecturers and students experience new learning and research techniques through the Learning Express and Overseas Industrial Training Program. DTU has also joined the P2A Organization, Passage to ASEAN, to build a united ASEAN community. On May 15th, DTU will hold the opening event of P2A 2015 and deploy the new procedures.
The results and benefits of DTU’s CDIO implementation were greatly appreciated at the meeting and encouraged other attending universitiesby talking about their experiences.
