Right after receiving her admittance to the university for her Third prize at the French National Gifted Students Contest in January 2015, Hoang Thi My Linh enrolled in International Relations at Duy Tan University (DTU), to pursue her study at an educational institute with prestige in both research and teaching.
National prize is just the beginning...
Her direct admission to university is a great honor for My Linh. However, for her it is just “easing the trials of the days of the final examinations”; it won’t diminish her study and research efforts. As a last-year student at Phan Boi Chau specialized senior high school in Nghe An, she always comes at the top of the class, My Linh also participated in many competitions and extracurricular activities, securing a true collection of valuable prizes.

In 2014, she took part in the French Language Gifted Student contest of Nghe An province and won a Third prize. In early 2015, My Linh obtained a Second prize in the French Orthography contest organized by the provincial Continuing Education Center. As an energetic student with many special talents, she won the heart of the jury in musical performance contests on the occasion of Vietnam Teachers’ Day, obtaining many valuable prizes. Recently, she obtained a Third prize in the French National Gifted Students competition.
Though winning many valuable prizes, My Linh considers this to be but the start of her journey of living and studying. Born in a poor family, she has always been aware of the power of knowledge. Standing by their daughter for 18 years, her parents have transmitted to her a large source of willpower to overcome any situation.
Why she chose DTU…
Spending a lot of time searching information about the universities in all of the country, My Linh decided to choose DTU, judging its curriculum will develop the students’ potential, allows her to pursue her preferred profession during her studies, and provides many opportunities for a foreign experience. She said: “I was most impressed by the collaborations of DTU with renowned universities in US, UK, and Singapore, aimed at improving educational quality at the school and at sending students abroad for studies. At DTU, I hope to be able to realize my dream of becoming a skilled diplomat, to more widely advertise the image of Vietnam abroad.”
Mr Le Van Kien, My Linh’s head teacher, said: “My Linh is an intelligent, lively class monitor and a helpful pupil. She always helps her friends in their studies and with the things of life. With her achievements during her high school years, I am sure she will be able to develop her personal potential at a quality education institute with many activities putting students’ interest foremost like DTU.”
With advanced curricula, high quality, studies abroad, and a scholarship policy with many benefits, DTU has, in recent years, managed to attract many good and excellent students. For example, in 2014 the highest final exam mark among the university’s input students was 26.5/30, attained by Vo Thi Hoai Tram, and the average marks among new students has improved considerably.
Studying at DTU, many students have developed their skills, obtaining many prizes and high achievements, such as the 2015 CDIO Gold Cup for innovative products at Harvard and MIT, and the championship in the 2014 Earthquake-Resistant Model Building competition between leading Asian universities.
