On
Oct 1st, DTU held a research seminar on the fabrication of silica
glass using the Sol-Gel method. Attendees included Distinguished Teacher Le
Cong Co, DTU Provost and President, Professor Vu Xuan Quang, Director of the
DTU Center for Research and Development, Mr. Masayuki Nogami, a Professor from
the Department of Advanced Materials at NITECH and President of the Japanese Sol-Gel Society, DTU lecturers and staff.
Professor
Masayuki Nogami speaks at the seminar
Professor Nogami explained how silica
glass is produced with the new Sol-Gel process, which has been applied
worldwide. Because of it applicability in materials production in general,
especially glass, DTU is presently applying the Sol-Gel process in its
laboratory.
Professor Quang said:”There are many ways to manufacture
materials. However, the Sol-Gel
process can fabricate more complex patterns in products like glass. The DTU
laboratory has already produced some samples, with excellent results.”
Professor Nogami is spending three weeks
visiting DTU to support the staff of Center for Research and Development and
teach them how to use Sol-Gel research equipment.
