2020 was a year of turmoil, with the Covid-19 global break-out severely impacting all our lives. In addition, Central Vietnam has suffered immensely from extreme storms and floods. However, striving to overcome these difficulties, DTU lecturers and students achieved much success in 2020, in teaching and research, including the following:
DTU jumps 100 places to enter the Top 351-400 QS Asia Universities Rankings
Quacquarelli Symonds, a renowned UK-based education organization, announced its 2021 list of the leading universities in Asia. Eleven Vietnamese universities appear in the 2021 QS Asia University Rankings: the National University in Ho Chi Minh city, the National University in Hanoi, Ton Duc Thang University, the Hanoi University of Science & Technology, Duy Tan University, Hue University, the University of Danang, Can Tho University, the Hanoi National University of Education, the Industrial University in Ho Chi Minh city and the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh city. Of the eleven universities in this year’s list, Duy Tan University climbed 100 places to enter Top 351-400 and rank fifth in Vietnam.

The American journal PLOS Biology has just published a list of the world’s one hundred thousand most influential scientists, which several newspapers had already reported. In 2019 alone, Ton Duc Thang University, with 31, and Duy Tan University, with 11, appeared most often on the list of the world’s most influential scientists, leaving other Vietnamese universities way behind.

DTU 3D Virtual Reality Healthcare Study & Research Application Wins Second Prize in the Make-in-Vietnam Digital Award 2020
On December 23, the Ministry of Information and Communications, in coordination with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, VCCI, announced the winners of the 2020 “Make in Vietnam” awards. Surpassing hundreds of technical product submissions nationwide, the application won second prize in the “Potential Digital Products” category. This year, DTU researchers also created the 3D Dental Anatomical Simulation and was the only university in the country to win a Make-in-Vietnam award this year among Vietnam’s heavy-weight software-producing companies.

DTU Scientist Wins a 2020 Golden Globe Award
Dr. Ho Thanh Tam, a lecturer and researcher at the DTU Institute for Global Health Innovation, became one of the ten winners of the 2020 “Golden Globe Awards”, through unceasing hard work in research. This year, 51 submissions were received, 45 from 19 institutions and 6 potentials. Dr. Tam has already left a deep impression with his research. Most noteworthy are his 17 publications in international journals, 10 in national ones and many from the proceedings of international and local conferences. In 2019, DTU researcher Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai won a Golden Globe Award in the field of Environmental Engineering.

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Polytechnic Network
From October 16 to19, DTU and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, SEAMEO, secretariat organized the 6th SEAMEO Polytechnic Network Meeting. 160 representatives from 64 educational organizations, in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam attended. They discussed the current exchange program between SEAMEO members and action plans for the SEA-TVET network from 2020 to 2023.
The objective of the program is to help students in the ASEAN region and SEAMEO partners to broaden opportunities for international study and future work. This will allow them to exchange experiences and work together on serious global issues, such as disease, poverty, hunger and climate change.
DTU hosts 2020 National Architecture Student Festival
From December 8 to 11, the 2020 National Architecture Festival for Students was held at Duy Tan University, with a series of exchange activities and competitions for 70 lecturers and 400 students from 21 universities and colleges nationwide. The Duy Tan University delegation won 12 impressive awards at the festival, with four firsts, two seconds, five thirds and one Global group prizes in 6 contents, including: Quick Design A-B, Parametric Design, Art drawing, Photography and Sand Sculpture.

DTU Presents its Five Schools
On November 11, DTU introduced its five new schools: School of Business & Economics - SBE; School of Computer Science - SCS; School of Engineering & Technologies; School of Foreign Language Studies - SFL; and College of Medicine-Pharmacy - CMP. This restructuring is expected to bring about many innovations in the training, research, and entrepreneurship at the university.

Highest-Scoring Applicant to DTU with 28 Points
With an outstanding result of 28/30, Nguyen Thi Khanh Chi from Nghe An province chose to study at DTU, majoring in Marketing Administration. She then received a full scholarship to enter the Keuka Business Administration ADP program, graduating in Vietnam with an American degree.
At the 2020-2021 opening ceremony, DTU awarded 193 scholarships, totaling 16.5 billion dong, to motivate K26 outstanding students to work harder to realize their ambitions. DTU also set aside a large number of scholarship vouchers, totaling 14 billion dong, for the K26 students affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and storms in Central Vietnam.

DTU Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program Obtains American ABET Accreditation
In late August 2020, ABET - the American-based Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology - officially recognized that the DTU Electrical and Electronic Engineering program meets the ABET accreditation criteria, at the highest level of six years, until September 30, 2026. DTU is the second university in Vietnam to be accredited, in addition to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (in 2014).
So far, DTU has been the university offering most ABET-accredited training programs in Vietnam, with three programs. In comparison, the HCMC University of Technology has two, the International University of the Vietnam National University HCMC has two, and Cao Thang Technical College has two.
The dtu-VENT version 3.0 ventilator meets the requirements for Covid-19 treatment
After only a short time spent on research between the two epidemic break-outs in 2020, DTU researchers finished their dtu-VENT version 3.0 ventilator, with all the functionality of a medical ventilator and meeting the requirements for use in emergencies and to treat Covid-19 patients. The dtu-VENT version 3.0 is designed as “2-in-1”, allowing it to be used as both a noninvasive or invasive ventilator and offering many other capabilities, such as a touch panel for remote control, the ability to operate and monitor many ventilators at once, and a warning system for doctors and nurses to deal with unusual developments in a timely fashion.
