DTU Information Technology students made significant achievements last year. On November 8, at the 2020 Vietnamese Student Informatics Olympiad at Can Tho University, the Duy Tan NBT Ex team won second prize in the Procon division, Nguyen Ngoc Hung and Truong Quoc Thuan won two seconds in the Non-IT Specialist division and Nguyen Hong Lich and Bui Duc Huy won two consolation prizes in the IT Specialist division.

The 2020 Informatics Olympiad and the 2020 International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Asia, Can Tho Region, were co-organized by MoET, the Vietnam Informatics Association and the Vietnam Student Association. The objective was to promote informatics education and motivate talented IT students. 700 students from 64 national and international universities and colleges attended.
They competed in six divisions:
- Super Cup OLP
- IT Specialist
- Non-IT Specialist
- College
- Source Software
- Procon
Eight DTU students competed in several divisions.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Long, a DTU IT lecturer said: “Asian students with a passion for information technology compete in problem-solving activities. The Informatics Olympiad, Procon and ACM/ICPC divisions all increased in difficulty this year, putting extra pressure on the participants, requiring them to apply their knowledge and reasoning skills to master practical problems with flexibility.”

Previously, the ICPC contest had been held, with 400 teams from universities nationwide. The Duy Tan SNMB team competed in the Central Region section and won a second prize. Then, on November 15, they won a Consolation prize in the National ICPC finals.
Nguyen Hong Lich, the Duy Tan NBT_Ex team leader, said: “I’m delighted that the entire team did their very best to bring several major prizes back home. The other teams were all very strong, each with their own particular style, but that didn’t stop our team from trying. For today’s achievement, I sincerely want to recognize our team members, thank our lecturer Nguyen Quoc Long and Huynh Ba Dieu for their dedicated guidance and the DTU Board of Provosts for creating an environment that made this all possible.”
