On 7th May, 2011, the 2011 Microsoft Office World Championships began in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Danang, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City. DTU was honored to be the host for Central Vietnam.
The competition drew students from 43 universities, 8 colleges, 22 vocational training schools and 10 high schools in Vietnam. In Danang, there were 122 competitors coming from 13 universities or colleges, including Duy Tan University, Hue University, Danang Polytechnic University, Dalat Vocational College and Le Quy Don High School. Mr. Ton That Day, the Manager of IIG Vietnam in Danang, said: “This is a competition for students in high schools, colleges and universities to show their computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and so on. They will be awarded certificates by Microsoft, Certiport or other companies”.
Many competitors take part in the competition at DTU
Outstanding students will be selected to compete in the second round in Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City. The prizes which are worth hundreds of millions of VND, and ten laptops and 50 D-Com 3G USBs will be given to the winners. The five top students will be sponsored to take part in the final round in San Diego, California, USA.
This was the second Microsoft Office World Championship held in Vietnam. Mr. Nguyen Huu Phu, DTU Vice-Rector said: “The development of the DTU I/T Department together with our well-equipped computer laboratories allowed us to host the competition in this in the Central Region”.
