On September 19th, 2010 at Que Minh, Que Son, Quang Nam Province, DTU students organized a voluntary charity event which drew more than 100 volunteers. The objective was to bring some pleasure to impoverished children and to recognize the sacrifices of war veterans.
In the morning, The Head of the Volunteer Club, Mr. Tran Van Vi and other visited four families and presented gifts worth 500,00 VND to each, while, the rest assembled in the local war cemetery. Despite the hot weather, more than 300 graves were cleaned and tidied up by the enthusiastic students in 3 hours. Then the volunteers started to prepare for another activity.
At 2 pm, the volunteers gathered to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with the children of Que Son. Local people and government officials also joined in. More than 40 gifts and lanterns were given to children with excellent school results. Nguyen Thu Huong, a K15 student expressed her feelings: “I have attended many voluntary events, but this is the first time I have visited the remote countryside. I can really fell the simple hospitality of the unfortunate homeless people here. To bring happiness to orphans, the handicapped and unfortunate people is an honor for each student. This trip will be a sweet memory for us”.
This voluntary program not only brought happy smiles to the children’s faces but also paid a tribute to war veterans who sacrificed their lives for our independence.
