For the First Time, Vietnam Has Academic Program in World Top 50

On March 25, 2026, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released its QS World Rankings by Subject 2026. Notably, the tourism programs at Duy Tan University (DTU) were ranked 41st worldwide, rising from the 51-100 band last year. This marks the first time a Vietnamese academic program ranks in the global top 50.

This achievement is the result of many years of effort by the DTU leadership, lecturers, and students to:

-    modernize the curricula,
-    train and upgrade lecturers,
-    achieve international accreditation,
-    expand global connections and partnerships.

Established and developing in Danang, a hub of culture and tourism in Central Vietnam and the country as a whole, DTU determined from its earliest days that tourism & hospitality would be a training spearhead, alongside another field in high-tech or healthcare.
In 2010, more than fifteen years ago, DTU signed a partnership with Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) - one of the top 50 institutions for economics and business administration in the US (according to U.S. News) and one of the world’s five best institutions for tourism training (according to UN Tourism) - to import and implement advanced programs in

•    Tourism & Hospitality Management,
•    Tourism & Travel Management, and
•    Tourism & Restaurant Operations Management.

As a result, hundreds of DTU lecturers in tourism have been trained and received upgrades in their qualifications to meet international tourism-training standards over the years. Going further, the university has recruited numerous foreign lecturers and academic leaders for this field. Notably, Prof. Dr Lim Sang Taek (South Korea) served as Dean of the Faculty of Tourism in 2017 and 2018. He previously held the position of Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Tourism Association (APTA). Following that, Prof. Dr Mo Chul Min, former Vice Minister of Culture, Sports, & Tourism of the Republic of Korea, was invited to serve as provost of the DTU Hospitality & Tourism Institute (HTi) for a three-year term from 2022 to 2025.

These developments laid a first foundation and created optimal conditions for DTU to achieve UNWTO.TedQual (now UN Tourism TedQual) accreditation in 2022 for two programs:

-    International Hotel Management and
-    International Restaurant Operations Management.

Operations Management have been accredited by UN Tourism TedQual

-    UN Tourism TedQual is the globally most prestigious accreditation for training programs in tourism. It is granted by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. To date, DTU is the only institution in Vietnam to have achieved this accreditation.
-    Today, DTU is also the only Vietnamese institution in APacCHRIE (Asia-Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant, & Institutional Education), as well as in several other international organizations in tourism & hospitality, such as PATA (Pacific-Asia Travel Association), APTA (Asia-Pacific Tourism Association), and AMFORHT (World Association for Hospitality & Tourism Education & Training).

DTU also maintains close partnerships with leading global institutions in tourism:

-    Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Hong Kong PolyU): ranked number 1 in tourism in many global rankings,
-    University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV): ranked number 1 in the US for its training in hospitality, leisure, and events,
-    Macao University of Tourism: a global leader in tourism, leisure, and casino,
-    Kyung Hee University (South Korea): a top institution in South Korea for tourism & hotel,
-    Troy University (US): offering On-Site Study-Abroad programs in Tourism & Hospitality Management, allowing students to earn an American degree at DTU.

In addition to tourism, DTU also achieved impressive rankings in the QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2026 in several key disciplines:

-    Computer Science & Information Systems: 144th, number 1 in Vietnam,
-    Architecture & Built Environment: 101-150, only institution in Vietnam,
