To combine classroom learning with academic exchange, improve educational quality, and promote Vietnamese and Korean cultures, the Faculty of Korean Language at DTU’s School of Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences (LHSS) collaborated with Jeonbuk National University in South Korea to organize the Capstone Design Project on the afternoon of August 25, 2026. The event provided a lively academic setting where students from both universities researched, exchanged ideas, and introduced distinctive aspects of Vietnamese and Korean culture, arts, and everyday life.

The student team’s presentation on traditional kites offered a relatable look at a creative form of folk culture.

The Capstone Design Project was both an academic activity and an opportunity for students to learn through experience and interact directly with international peers. Working with Korean students to develop and present a project gave DTU students a chance to practice Korean in real-life situations and better understand Korean culture and how native speakers communicate. Activities like this connect classroom learning with practical experience, helping students develop language proficiency, cultural knowledge, and professional skills. These skills can also help them feel more confident when studying and working in international settings.

The Capstone Design Project brought together seven teams, each with five DTU students and two Korean students. Working across cultures encouraged students to exchange ideas, divide tasks, conduct research, and prepare their presentations together.

Throughout the process, students applied their Korean-language skills and cultural knowledge while developing skills in communication, public speaking, teamwork, creative thinking, and international collaboration.

Students explored the cultural values expressed through Taekwondo and Vovinam

The seven teams chose topics connected to everyday life and Vietnamese-Korean cultural exchange. Their presentations covered:

- Traditional holidays, including Lunar New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival, highlighting similarities and differences in the two countries’ customs;

- Traditional alcoholic beverages and cuisine, with stories about food culture and signature dishes;

- Taekwondo and Vovinam, exploring the martial spirit and cultural values expressed through these martial arts;

- Traditional kites as a creative form of folk culture;

- Korean minhwa and Vietnamese Đông Hồ folk paintings, exploring the artistic beauty, everyday life, and aesthetic perspectives reflected in the two traditions;

- Traffic signs and signage systems as a way to explore differences in modern daily life; and

- Calligraphy and the cultural and spiritual values preserved through the written word.

After the presentations, the Organizing Committee summarized the results and presented awards to projects recognized for their strong content, creative presentation, and effective portrayal of Vietnamese and Korean cultural values:

- First prize: the team presenting on traditional kites;

- Second prize: the team presenting on calligraphy; and

- Third prize: the team presenting on Korean minhwa and Vietnamese Đông Hồ folk paintings.

The collaboration between the Faculty of Korean Language at DTU’s School of Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences (LHSS) and Jeonbuk National University through the Capstone Design Project helped expand opportunities for Vietnamese-Korean academic and cultural exchange. It also gave students more opportunities to connect, share ideas, and celebrate the distinctive cultures of both countries, contributing to a dynamic and internationally engaged learning environment at Duy Tan University.
