On August 10, DTU ’s College of Medicine and Pharmacy (CMP) sent 288 students -130 from the General Practitioner program and 158 from the Odonto-Stomatology program - to Hue Central Hospital to begin their clinical rotations.

This annual program offers students the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in a hospital setting, apply their knowledge in practice, develop professional skills, and cultivate medical ethics at one of Vietnam’s leading healthcare institutions.

People’s Teacher, Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Dang, DTU Vice Provost and CMP Rector, and Dr. Vo Thi Ha Hoa, CMP Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, accompanied the students on the first day of their clinical rotations.

Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, welcomed the students and highlighted the importance of clinical practice in consolidating their knowledge and developing their professional skills, clinical reasoning, and professional conduct.

To help the students quickly adapt to the clinical environment, the hospital gave them a general orientation and a detailed briefing on its key rules and regulations.

The students were then assigned to rotations in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Dentistry, Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Orthopedics and Reconstructive Surgery, and several other related departments.

“Training at a hospital with a history spanning more than 130 years and a reputation as one of Vietnam’s leading medical institutions will enable you to acquire not only professional knowledge and skills but also invaluable lessons from your lecturers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals about medical ethics, responsibility, and compassion for patients.

“I hope you will always remain humble and proactive in your learning, strictly comply with the hospital’s rules and regulations, and devote yourselves wholeheartedly to patient care.”

Health Sciences students train in DTU’s modern medical practice laboratories

To prepare for this important period of clinical training, DTU’s College of Medicine and Pharmacy made thorough arrangements in terms of organization, professional preparation, and students’ readiness to learn.

In addition to receiving close guidance and support from the university, each student worked to strengthen their knowledge, hone essential skills, and prepare for the clinical experience ahead.

Before entering an actual clinical setting, students at the College of Medicine and Pharmacy receive systematic preclinical training in DTU ’s practice laboratories and Medical Simulation Center (MedSIM).

Through practice with patient simulators and modern medical equipment, students gradually become proficient in basic examination procedures, vital-sign assessment, and the management of common clinical situations.

This training provides an important foundation, enabling students to transition confidently from classroom-based theoretical learning to real-world patient care and treatment.

“Classroom knowledge and clinical reality do not always align perfectly. Not every patient presents all the symptoms described in textbooks, so we need to take the initiative in learning and gradually develop a practical approach to recognizing and understanding medical conditions.

“I truly appreciate the opportunity the university and the hospital have given us to train in such a professional and highly respected medical environment,” said Le Nguyen Minh Khoa, a General Medicine student at DTU’s College of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The hands-on experience at Hue Central Hospital, a leading multidisciplinary hospital with notable achievements in organ transplantation, stem cell transplantation, allogeneic bone marrow transplantation, cardiology, oncology, stroke care, assisted reproduction and neonatal care, laparoscopic surgery, and orthopedics, will help students connect theoretical knowledge with advanced clinical practice.

More importantly, the hospital’s professional, multidisciplinary environment will not only enhance the students’ clinical competence and proactive approach to learning but also help them cultivate the medical ethics and professional conduct expected of future physicians.
