The ranking is based on Elsevier’s Scopus database, which covers more than 7 million scientists worldwide. Scientists are classified into 20 major fields and 174 subfields. Only those in the top 2% in their fields or among the 100,000 researchers with the highest c-scores are included in the list.

The ranking is split into two separate lists:

    2025 single-year: based on the preceding year, generally associated with affiliation;
    career-long: work throughout a career, including at multiple educational and research institutions.

According to the announcement, Vietnam has 280 scientists from 70 educational and research institutions in the 2025 single-year ranking and 121 scientists from 40 educational institutions in the career-long ranking.

Duy Tan University (DTU) is honored to have numerous scientists in both rankings: 27 scientists listed for 2025 single-year achievements and 13 for career-long achievement.

Four of the 27 DTU scientists in the 2025 single-year ranking are among the world top 10,000, while 11 are among the top 100,000. The four highest-ranked DTU scientists in this list are:

    Dr. Tran Nguyen Hai, specializing in environmental technology, currently working at the DTU Institute of Fundamental & Applied Sciences (IFAS).
    Dr. Hoang Nhat Duc, specializing in civil engineering, currently working at the DTU Institute of Research & Development (IRD).
    Dr. Tolulope Joshua Ashaolu, specializing in biotechnology, currently working at the DTU Institute of Research & Development.
    Dr. Anand Nayyar, specializing in computer science and AI, currently working at the DTU School of Data and AI (SDA).

In the career-long ranking, DTU has 13 of its people, including six in the world top 100,000 based on Elsevier’s citation-based metrics.
