DTU to Host the 37th National Mechanics Olympiad for the Central Region in 2027

DTU has been selected as the host for the 37th National Mechanics Olympiad for the Central Region, scheduled to take place in 2027.

The announcement was made during the Closing and Awards Ceremony of the 36th National Mechanics Olympiad for the Central Region, held on June 14, 2026, at the University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang.

At the 2026 competition, DTU students secured 10 awards, including three Third and seven Consolation prizes, reaffirming the University's academic excellence in one of Vietnam's most prestigious engineering competitions. Established in 1989, the National Mechanics Olympiad has been held annually to challenge and recognize outstanding engineering students nationwide.

Organized by the Vietnam Association for Mechanics, the Olympiad provides students in Engineering and Technology with an opportunity to demonstrate their technical knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. It also serves as a platform for identifying and nurturing promising young talents who will contribute to research, education, and industry. The competition is held simultaneously across the Northern, Central, and Southern regions, with host universities rotating each year.

DTU students won many prizes at the 2026 National Mechanics Olympiad

The 2026 Olympiad featured eight competition categories: Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Structural Mechanics, Hydraulics, Soil Mechanics, Theory of Machines, Machine Elements and Computer Applications in Machine Elements.

DTU sent a delegation of 33 students, competing in seven of the eight disciplines. Thanks to thorough preparation and a solid academic foundation, the team achieved an impressive total of 10 awards, including: 2 Third prizes in Strength of Materials, 1 Third prize in Soil Mechanics and 7 Consolation prizes in Strength of Materials, Soil Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, and Theory of Machines.

DTU student of Civil Engineering Doan Mach Thanh Nam said: “The greatest lesson I gained from the National Mechanics Olympiad was not only the technical knowledge but also the perseverance required to understand the fundamental principles behind every engineering problem. Soil Mechanics involves extensive analysis and the application of theoretical knowledge to real-world foundation and geotechnical conditions. I spent considerable time reviewing concepts systematically and practicing various types of problems to develop effective approaches to complex engineering challenges.

The competition allowed me to evaluate my capabilities while strengthening my logical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to solve engineering problems under time constraints. These experiences will be invaluable for my future career in Civil Engineering, particularly in foundation design and structural assessment."

The subjects in which DTU students excelled represent the core disciplines of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering education. These courses require not only strong technical knowledge but also logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and the ability to solve complex engineering problems.

Mastering these subjects enables students to gain a deeper understanding of material behavior, structural performance, foundation engineering, machine design, and mechanical principles. Such knowledge prepares them to design, construct, operate, and optimize engineering structures and mechanical systems while meeting the practical demands of modern industry.

Tran Nguyen Xuan Nhat, who earned a Third prize in Strength of Materials, shared: "Participating in the 36th National Mechanics Olympiad gave us an excellent opportunity to challenge ourselves, assess our abilities, gain valuable experience, and develop our professional thinking. We were fortunate to receive dedicated guidance from DTU lecturers throughout the preparation process. They not only explained every problem-solving approach in detail but also shared effective learning strategies and continuously encouraged and motivated us during the competition."

Among universities in Vietnam's Central Region, the 2026 National Mechanics Olympiad results were as follows: University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang: 57, Duy Tan University: 10, Mien Trung University of Civil Engineering: 7, Nha Trang University: 5, University of Technology and Education - The University of Danang: 3 awards

Recognizing DTU's academic reputation and organizational capabilities, the Vietnam Association for Mechanics has entrusted DTU with hosting the 37th National Mechanics Olympiad for the Central Region in 2027. The competition is expected to take place in late April or early May 2027, welcoming engineering students from universities across Central Vietnam.
