On December 19, the DTU Board of Provosts, staff, lecturers, and students visited and presented gifts to members of the 146th Brigade of the 4th Naval Region, as they also did in December last year. Distinguished teacher, Hero of Labor Le Cong Co, and DTU President had an emotional conversation with members of the brigade.
The DTU leadership presents gifts
Distinguished teacher Le Cong Co said: “We can live in a peaceful and free country today due to the sacrifices made by soldiers in both times of war and peace, including the sailors of Navy Region 4. These soldiers, in fulfilling their mission, endure hardships and sacrifice their happiness by being away from their families, loved ones, and neighbors to safeguard the peace of the seas and islands of our Fatherland. You are young, truly patriotic heroes. At DTU we are always grateful for the contribution you make protecting us and hope to strengthen our bond through these meetings.”
Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, DTU Provost, and Colonel Do Hai Dang, Deputy Political Commissar of the 146th Brigade sign a Memorandum of Understanding
On the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army, and the upcoming 2024 Lunar New Year, the DTU leadership presented gifts with a value of 163 million VND to the 33 military outposts. In addition, DTU donated 5 computers to the Political Department of the Navy Region 4 Command, and 20 computers to the 146th Brigade.
Colonel Nguyen Huu Minh, a Member of the Party Standing Committee and Deputy Political Commissar of Navy Region 4, said: “On behalf of the Command’s leaders, I extend my sincere thanks to DTU for their continuing annual visits and their words of encouragement to the soldiers of the 146th Brigade. In 2023, Navy Region 4 faced numerous challenges in global and regional changes, especially in the East Sea. However, we persistently strive to protect the country, and live up to the expectations of the Vietnamese people, including the DTU lecturers, staff, and students.”
At the meeting, Dr. Le Nguyen Bao, DTU Provost, and Colonel Do Hai Dang, Deputy Political Commissar of the 146th Brigade signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on various future activities. The agreement aims to promote the traditions of the Vietnam People’s Army, the Navy, the Navy Region 4, the 146th Brigade, and DTU to enhance patriotism and implement the Party’s guidelines and policies, laws and regulations.

The also agreed to coordinate to prevent the manifestation of degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyles; to visit and assist families under preferential treatment policy and outstanding students facing financial challenges; provide support for facilities and funds to enhance information development; improve the material and spiritual lives of the civilians soldiers in the Truong Sa district; and organize sporting, cultural and artistic exchange programs to improve well-being in the area.
DTU and the Brigade will conduct activities leading to the signing ceremony between the two partners, expected to take place on the 30th anniversary of DTU’s establishment, in 1994. This coincides with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army, in 1944, and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Festival, in 1989.
DTU has already organized several activities to support our seas and islands, including a donation of 200 million VND to officers and soldiers on duty in the Truong Sa Island district; appealing to everyone to send text messages to support fishermen on the Paracel and Spratly islands; and organizing cultural programs to rediscover our most memorable national nautical songs. DTU was honored to receive the Vietnamese national flag from the officers and soldiers on duty at the Pearson Reef on the Spratly Islands, at the 2018-2019 university opening ceremony.
DTU’s visit to the 146th Brigade demonstrated the university’s commitment to caring for soldiers on duty on the islands, fostering solidarity between the military and the people, and teaching students about the duties of the military and the citizens’ responsibilities in protecting our Fatherland.
