Four hundred delegates from 14 countries in the greater Mekong sub-region attended the 2023 International Conference on Public Health, both online and onsite, hosted by the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
DTU lecturers and students won first and second prizes for the Oral Presentation, and a third prize for the Poster Presentation.
The theme of the conference was: “Enhancing Transdisciplinary Collaboration on Education and Research to Tackle Priority Public Health Issues in the New Era,” attended by healthcare professionals, scientists, managers, researchers and students from Vietnam, Thailand, China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Australia, Germany, Japan, Ireland, Mongolia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Singapore. 250 presentations were delivered either in-person or online.

The conference comprised 12 sessions covering the following fields:
- Epidemiology of Communicable and Non-communicable diseases
- Health improvement
- Mental Health
- Environmental and Occupational Health
- Nutrition and Food Safety
- Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment
- Health Service and Healthcare Management
- Reproductive Health
The presentations focused on groundbreaking research and innovative solutions to address urgent public health problems in the new era. MD. Nguyen Dac Quynh Anh’s presentation on the topic: “Lung Cancer Treatment Costs from the Payer’s Perspective at the Danang Oncology Hospital” was awarded first prize for the Oral Presentation. The treatment of lung cancer is expensive in both developed and developing countries. To analyze the cost of lung cancer treatment and identify related factors, MD. Nguyen Dac Quynh Anh’s research team conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods on 154 lung cancer patients at the Danang Oncology Hospital, from May to December 2022.
Factors such as lung cancer progression, treatment methods, and treatment duration influence the costs. Direct non-medical costs also constitute a significant proportion of the overall cost. Consequently, it is imperative to provide support to disadvantaged patients and foster trust in doctors’ treatment methods.
Dr. Nguyen Dac Quynh An, said: “Health and Education are fields that demand lifelong study and research. Currently, I feel truly fortunate to work in both fields at DTU and am grateful for the support and opportunities provided by the DTU Board of Directors and the DTU Faculty of Medicine for conducting research and participating in conferences to enhance my knowledge. The International Conference on Public Health in the greater Mekong sub-region countries facilitated connections among researchers, universities, and research institutes in the area.”
A DTU student was awarded second prize for Oral Presentation
Two DTU student teams presented on the topics: “Knowledge about Electronic Health of DTU students during the Covid-19 pandemic” and “Effectiveness of Cardiac Resuscitation Training for DTU students in 2022: Instruction combining AHA and ERC”, and were awarded second and third Oral and Poster prizes, respectively.
DTU lecturers and students were able to improve their research skills, establish connections between DTU and other Health Science universities in the greater Mekong sub-region and gain experience at the conference.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, Head of a team from the Medical Simulation Center, said: “As the instructor of the two DTU teams, I am extremely proud of their knowledge, passion for research and self-confidence, which demonstrates their ability to consistently study hard. DTU lecturers and students shared their research findings with other scientists from many countries and broadened opportunities for future research activities.”
