After eight hours of uninterrupted competition with many information security teams from the Middle East and other parts of the world, the ISITDTU team from Duy Tan University (DTU) won second prize at the Arab Security Cyber Wargames.

The Arab Security Cyber Wargames was held in the Nile Ritz-Carlton hotel in Cairo (Egypt) on September 19th 2022 and was part of the Arab Security Conference held by Arab Security Consultants.
The conference attracted many large security companies, who sent network security experts and consultants, business information security personnel and IT students from all over the world.
Unlike other contests, the Arab Security Cyber Wargames challenged the teams to gain or prevent access to computer systems and exploit and protect system vulnerabilities.
The organizers also aimed to enable companies to identify, recruit and train talented contestants in network security, and boost the capabilities of the information security workforce internationally.
In addition to putting contestants’ in-depth professional knowledge to full use, the Arab Security Cyber Wargames encouraged teams to fully exploit their soft skills, communications, teamwork, time management, problem solving and flexibility to solve the problems as efficiently and quickly as possible.
The DTU ISITDTU team won second prize
“The requirements of this year’s Arab Security Cyber Wargames contributed to the development of our knowledge and skills in real-life security,” explained Tran Ky Son, a student of the DTU School of Computer Science (SCS) and member of the ISITDTU team, “The new challenging environment also allowed us to identify our strengths and weaknesses.
“After we received the second prize, several network security companies from the Middle East wanted to meet us and work for them, which was a memorable and wonderful experience for our team.”
To prepare for the contest, the DTU ISITDTU team of third- and fourth-year students, from the CMU-standard Network Engineering and Information Security program, practiced hard in the university’s Security Open Lab.
The support of experienced lecturers and various students has boosted their confidence, talent and spirit to win several outstanding domestic and international competitions over the years.
“Coaching the ISITDTU team for the Arab Security Cyber Wargames was an opportunity for DTU lecturers and students alike to get up to date on the latest network security trends and to learn more from experts from all over the world,” remarked Mr. Nguyen Kim Tuan, Dean of the School of Computer Science.
“Participating in the contest allowed our students to put into practice the knowledge and skills they learned at DTU and broaden their minds through interaction with other teams from all over the world.”
