On August 20th, DTU held a TedQual Accreditation Declaration Ceremony to mark the accreditation of the DTU programs in International Hospitality Management and International Restaurant Operations Management by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
UNWTO accredited the DTU programs in International Hospitality Management and International Restaurant Operations Management with a high score of 771/845 points, meeting up to 91.2% of the criteria, on July 8th. DTU has now become the first Vietnamese university with UNWTO.TedQual qualified programs.
Rector Appointment to the School of Hospitality and Tourism and the International School
Founded in 1975 and considered the “AACSB accreditation for tourism”, TedQual is the world’s most prestigious accreditation standard for tourism and hospitality. UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector by advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide.
To receive UNWTO.TedQual certification, tourism training programs at universities must not only meet the criteria of UNWTO.TedQual, they must also integrate the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism. According to the criteria of UNWTO.TedQual, learners must be central and the training programs are evaluated on the relationships among 5 groups:
1. Students
2. Lecturers
3. Employers
4. Educational program and pedagogical system
5. Management

To successfully get accreditation by UNWTO, DTU has spent nearly 10 years building advanced and high-quality programs in tourism and hospitality in partnership with Pennsylvania State University (PSU), one of the world’s top five universities in hospitality and tourism. The DTU programs in International Hospitality Management and International Restaurant Operations Management have received TedQual certification with validity of 3 years.
Within the framework of the ceremony, DTU announced the decisions to appoint rectors to its member schools. Accordingly, Prof. Dr. Lim Sang Taek was appointed Rector of the DTU International School and Dr. Chul Min Mo was appointed Rector of the DTU School of Hospitality and Tourism.
Dr. Chul Min Mo said: “I am very pleased to work for DTU, a university attracting a large number of students and training potential graduates with qualifications for big companies. On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude to the DTU Board of Provosts for giving me the opportunity to work for and contribute to the development of the university. Also, I would like to thank the former Director of the DTU Institute of Hospitality & Tourism, Professor. Lim Sang Taek, for having made an impressive leap in improving the quality of training programs and promoting international exchange. The DTU School of Hospitality & Tourism cannot develop by itself. The DTU School of Hospitality & Tourism will develop through joint training and research projects with organizations and universities, domestically and worldwide. As Rector of the DTU School of Hospitality & Tourism, I will do my best for the development of the School of Tourism.”
