Top 10 Vietnamese Universities in the 2022 SCImago Institution Rankings
The top three in this year’s ranking are:
- Ton Duc Thang University ranked 1st and 538th in the world (up from 606 last year);
- DTU ranked 2nd and up 112 places to rank 624th worldwide, and
- Nguyen Tat Thanh University placed 3rd in Vietnam and 638th in the world.
Oxford University Clinical Research Unit fell nationally, from 1st to 6th, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, HCMC from 3rd to 7th, and Vietnam National University, Hanoi from 4th to 8th.
Nguyen Tat Thanh University (ranked 3rd), National Economics University (ranked 4th), and University of Economics, HCMC (ranked 9th) are listed in the top ten for the first time. The Vietnam National University, HCMC; the Military Technical Academy (or Le Quy Don Technical University) and the University of Danang dropped out of the top 10.
SCImago is a research group from the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Universities of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid) and Alcalá (Alcalá de Henares), who retrieve and analyze SCOPUS data using visualization techniques.
Since 2009, SCImago has assessed universities and other research-oriented institutions internationally. The purpose of this ranking is to provide a useful measurement tool for organizations, policymakers and research managers to analyze, evaluate and improve their research activities.

This year’s rankings were based on three criteria: Research Performance (50%), Innovation Output (30%), and Societal Impact (20%) based on internet presence.
