DTU Introduces the AED-302 Trainer and Signs an Agreement with the Well-Being Company to Commercialize Medical Technology Products

On December 2, DTU introduced the AED-302 trainer, developed by the DTU School of Science & Technology Center for Visualization & Simulation (CVS), which enables users to develop their basic cardiogenic shock (CS) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills. DTU also signed an agreement with the Well-Being Services company to commercialize DTU’s technology products.

The AED-302 is a version of the automated external defibrillator for the simulation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques. MSc. Le Van Chung, the CVS Director, said: “The World Health Organization has recently announced that one of the main causes of death, accounting for 55% of the 55.4 million fatalities worldwide, is cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that patients who suddenly go into cardiac arrest because of a stroke, electric shock or drowning, can be revived with a 50-75% success rate if both CPR and AED first-aid are implemented together within the first 3 to 5 minutes. In Vietnam, however, only hospitals and other medical facilities are normally equipped with defibrillators, but not schools or households. In addition, users must have a basic knowledge of CPR and how to administer the electric shock. As a result, DTU has developed and produced the AED-302 Trainer to expand the first-aid skills of ordinary users.”

DTU signs an agreement with Well-being

The AED-302 is made of plastic, which can withstand impact and dirt. It is convenient and compact, smaller than the size of a sheet of A4 paper, strapped on the back with the electrode plate concealed in a small pocket. Its lithium battery lasts for up to 4 hours and takes 90 minutes to recharge, so it can be used in the classroom without interruption.

“Before developing the product, we reviewed the guidelines of the WHO and the American Heart Association, (AHA), and consulted with the Well-Being Health Education company. We then came up with 8 real-world scenarios closely following the AHA procedures. These are then displayed on a screen, with step-by-step, recorded instructions in both Vietnamese and English. In addition, users can devise various first aid training exercises by remote control. Because of its simplicity, compact design and superior features, the AED-302 Trainer is expected to become an important device for easy use at commercial centers, airports, train stations, offices, beaches, swimming pools and educational institutions.”, said MSc. Le Van Chung.

The partnership between DTU and Well-Being delivers medical technology to the community

During the past year, DTU has worked hard to promote research and develop several medical products, including:

- The e-CPR system, for cardiopulmonary resuscitation first aid training, which won a Sao Khue award
- The DTU-Vent Version 3.0
- The DTU-Vent invasive and noninvasive ventilator, to treat Covid-19 patients
- The DTU 3D Anatomical Simulation Technology app, which won second prize in the 2020 Digital Awards
- The X-ray and CT app for Covid-19 detection

After hearing DTU’s technology products, the Well-being company signed an agreement to commercialize them.

Dr. Nguyen Van Cong delivers a speech

Dr. Nguyen Van Cong, the Well-Being CEO said: “The AED-302 Trainer developed by the DTU CVS Center is a breakthrough in first aid instruction in Vietnam. We aim to market the device as quickly as possible. In my job. I’ve witnessed the pain when loved ones died because they were not immediately revived, due to the lack of medical equipment like the AED. We will work together to broaden the knowledge of first aid procedures in universities as well as the community through the DTU E-learning programs.”

Founded in October 2014, Well-Being shares the same goals as DTU in health education and community development. Currently, they are specializing in three fields, health education and communication, the sale of home medical equipment, and health protection and promotion. Well-Being partners with other well-known companies and universities in Vietnam and worldwide.
