Two DTU students won second prizes at the "Speaking Korean to celebrate Hangul Day" contest, organized by the Consulate General of South Korea in Danang. Students competed from several local universities, including the University of Foreign Languages in Danang; the Vietnam-Korea Information and Communication Technology University of the University of Danang; the University of Foreign Languages of Hue University; DTU and Dong A University.
The contest had two optional topics: "Things I love about the Korean culture" and "My experiences in South Korea". Contestants were divided into two groups, group 1 for students, who had studied Korean for less than two years, and the other for those who had studied the language longer than two.
Two DTU students win prizes
The DTU Korean Language Department was established in 2020-2021, so there are first and second-year students only. Six DTU students from Group 1 were selected to advance to the finals online, where they made presentations to the judges for three minutes.
Nguyen Trong Phung from DTU won a second prize with his presentation entitled; "Meeting Korean children - a predestined relationship with the Korean language”, a story about the International Kidscamp, an activity that Trong Phung volunteered for after high school graduation.
In 2020, Trong Phung also won the People’s Choice Award at the K-pop Cover Video Contest, organized by the Consulate.

A second DTU student, Ngo Thi Oanh, won another second prize with a presentation entitled: “The Korean food culture that I love”, which highlighted the similarities and differences between traditional meals in Vietnam and South Korea. Ngo Thi Oanh said: “My success in the contest was due to my hard work and the dedicated support of my DTU lecturers, to whom I would like to offer my deep gratitude.”
Ngo Thi Oanh spends much of her free time listening to Korean music or watching Korean movies, and also participates in Korean language clubs to improve her communication.
A first prize and a consolation prize were awarded to the University of Foreign Languages of Hue University, and two consolation prizes to Dong A University.
