On October 6, Times Higher Education (THE) announced their world university rankings by subject. Previously, three Vietnamese universities, the Hanoi University of Science & Technology (HUST), the Vietnam National University in Hanoi (VNU-HN) and the Vietnam National University in HCMC (VNUHCM) were included in the rankings. This year, two other Vietnamese institutions were added, DTU and Ton Duc Thang University, both ranked in 401 to 500 group.

In Computer Science, DTU and Ton Duc Thang University were both ranked 251-300 worldwide, HUST dropped from 501 - 600 last year to 601-800 this year, along with VNU-HN and VNU-HCMC. This year’s list includes 891 universities, up from 827 last year.

In Engineering, DTU and Ton Duc Thang University were listed in the 251-300 group and VNU-HN, HUST and VNU-HCMC dropped this year. 1,188 universities were included, up from 1,098 last year.

"From 2015 on, to gain a listing in the THE rankings, DTU has done much to enhance the quality of education and research, improve lecturer and staff productivity, invest in teaching facilities and expand business collaborations.”, said DTU School of Technology Provost Dr. Ha Dac Binh. “Research teams have been established and DTU has partnered with local and foreign research institutions to improve the quality and quantity of publications.”
“Lecturers regularly travel to American universities for further training and, in 2019, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) certified the DTU Electrical Engineering program with its highest ABET accreditation, for the next five years. International student-centered teaching methods have been implemented and students are encouraged to compete in the CDIO Academy, Go Green in The City and Startup contests to gain hands-on experience for their future careers."
This year’s Physical Sciences list includes 1,227 universities, up from 1,149 last year. The VNU-HN, HUST and VNU-HCMC rankings remain unchanged and DTU and Ton Duc Thang University are ranked in the top 250 worldwide.

Associate Professor Nguyen Ngoc Hieu, Director of the DTU Institute for Research and Development, stated: " To improve education and research in Physics, DTU has invested heavily in lecturers and staff and building state-of-the-art laboratories. The DTU Physics team is comprised of 50 researchers and faculty members, who have graduated from the best-known countries in Physical Sciences. Several of them have been awarded the Annual Young Research Award by the Theoretical Physics Society and published papers, including the “Physical Review Letters on Nuclear Physics”, by Associate Professor Nguyen Quang Hung, in renowned international journals. The team has greatly contributed to improving the quality of Physics education at DTU and teaching many students how to begin conducting research projects."
In the Life Sciences, this year’s table includes 972 universities, up from 895 last year. Ton Duc Thang University was listed in the top 300. The VNU-HCMC is ranked in the group of 601-800.
Universities are ranked in 11 categories, in the 5 core missions of Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income and International Outlook and includes 1,662 institutions this year, up from 1,526 in 2021.
